500 Taraka Plus
Discussion
There is a Taraka Chimaera for sale in Germany ( https://tvrcarclub.de/tvr-chimaera-500-taraka-rhd-...). Why not contact the seller to ask for his experience with that upgrade.
Is it worth it.
Comparing it to what?
The only thing I’d say is make sure other parts like the clutch or areas of the car effected by a Taraka upgrade are upto the job or Dom’s boys will find them out and that can end up costing.
Look closely at the list of work as part of the upgrade and just be aware any other work required will be charged for.
The good news is you’ll end up with a great car and engine if you go down this path.
That’s my view.
I own a 450 built to a similar level as the Taraka which Powers built over 10 years ago that’s been brilliant and full of power over many thousands of miles.
Comparing the prices today compared to when I had mine built in 2011 or was it 2012,,, the price has not changed drastically compared to everything else in the country.
I believe Powers warrantee was and is the best of any RV8 TVR builder in the country.
Ive just checked my time line and after just under 4 years with my Taraka rebuilt engine and over 15,000 miles mostly road driving/ cruising but for my sins I also completed a number of track days and used every horse in the tank I had MBE fitted and mapped at that point in late 2015.
So at 15,000 miles the car recorded around 300 bhp but more importantly still had around 340 ft of torque which is good 500 spec.
Being a 4.6 it’s running 38 mm trumpets and no porting of inlet or heads so you could expect a 500 to produce 320 bhp or more quite easily.
So this shows a Powers engine is balanced and full of power a long time after the build. It’s all in the balance I feel. So smooth and spins up to Rev limit instantly.
Ive done another 10,000 miles since then and it’s still just the same. Full of power.
ETA
Ive read somewhere that Powers have a new dynamic balancer which sounds like a nice tool.
