I am buying a Griff 500 privately (97 R) with full TVRsh and all bills. Does anyone have experience of 3rd party warranties e.g. WarrantyWise etc ? The going price seems to be around £250. Fernhurst are asking around £590 for Warranty Holdings cover. An aquaintance in the trade tells me they are not worth the paper they are written on. However, it would be reassuring to know that someone else will pick up the tab if anything major goes wrong .... or will they ?

Going back a few years but I bought my first TVR, a 350, from a non-franchised dealer with a top of the range Warranty Holdings policy. About 3 weeks later found the front calipers were partially seized so attempted to claim for replacement calipers to be told they were not covered. Pointed out that the policy specifically listed calipers at which point they said it wasnt the calipers but the pistons that were U/S and they weren't listed! and anyway it was fair wear and tear so wasnt covered - the car only had 26k on the clock with FSH. Bottom line was I got nothing and would not touch Warranty Holdings with a barge-pole. How about trying for a dealer warranty - if the car is as good as the dealer says they should be happy to underwrite it themselves. Did that with my second TVR (a 400SE from David Gerald). Interestingly enough I did have a couple of problems but the service and help received at the time was excellent.
