Ex-Works Griffith.

Apparently it was originally a 4.0l but had been factory upgraded to a 4.3l.

Windscreen replaced as delaminating.
New hi-lift cam etc. fitted.
Dash returned to walnut veneer.
Also (un)helpfully revealed the hole behind the rear number plate although not all cars have this.

Bought from a trader for £15k and sold for £22k.

Where is the place "next door" who had the screen in stock ?

This was discussed in the TV area when it was on Discovery last year, but I was glad to watch it on 'free' TV. I noticed the piston crowns were pocketed on disassembly, and the blurb about them being available as a 5.0 litre failed to mention that was only from 1993 when cats had to be fitted.

No mention of the chassis but ir was apparently OK, and for safety's sake because of filming driving with a new prospective owner, it has new tyres and brakes apparently, not mention on the program, but hey it's TV. smile

Being traders, I suppose they had to buy a windscreen but it sounded overpriced to me, and they're not that rare because the Chimaera ones are the same. I have ahem... 'ensured' I have a cracked screen in the past on 2 x TVRs and a Porsche and claimed off the insurance. Excess was between £75 and £90. wink I've been to an open day at Topcats, nice people.

No mention of the lack of power steering either, but £22k seemed about right (filmed in 2021), the paintwork looked very good, so a previous respray no doubt. Hood was very faded, or was it grey?

That aluminium dash was an option on later TVRs, there was one fitted to my W reg Chimaera. I quite liked it, but yes, earlier cars should have the veneered dash.

ETA: Still recorded at DVLA as being a 4.0 litre.

Aargh

I was wondering yesterday when the 'new' series of WD was coming to Quest so I could watch the grief build.

Yes, that car did have a veneer dash originally, however, it was possible to have an aluminium dash from quite early on.

In CAR magazine, Feb '93, there was an article about an early Griff (4.3) owner whose K-regd Griff, delivered in July 1992, the day before K-regn was road-legal, was supplied with an aluminium dash, at the owner's request. Having said that, I suspect that they were few and far between.

And of course, Quest +1 (Ch 70) at 9am if you want a lie-in. smile

By the way, would you believe Elvis mentions he worked on F1 cars. rolleyes

I wasn't aware the aluminium dash was available earlier. The W reg Chimaera I had (bought in 2013) was the first one I'd ever seen. I quite liked the basket weave effect, but it suited a silver car with black face gauges, IMHO of course.

I was discussing with someone who were asking me if my carbon fiber dash panel was standard or not, which I was unable to answer.
I found this topic with options in 1997: https://www.pistonheads.com/gassing/topic.asp?h=0&...
Aluminum dash was already an option.
Mince was built in 1996 (mk1.5), I still don't know if this was fitted at the factory or after (this is well done, not a covering).

Interesting that a metal dashboard was priced as an 'extra' back then, but that a re-veneering a dash is now considerably more expensive than just replacing with a metal-finished one. smile I actually used carbon fibre effect vinyl wrap on my last Chimaera, I thought it looked OK, ish:

ETA: The lower dash was also done to match, apparently, but this was not shown. It would have been nice to be shown how to remove the dash, although it's not that difficult of a Griff.

Presume that the ex-works driver Steve Cole is on here somewhere?

Some chassis chat would have been good - seems rather amateurish not to mention it at all.

First thing I'd look at (on a ramp) if I was buying.

Chassis has been done by the program in the Cerbera episode and no need felt to revisit.
I don’t understand your presumption on Steve Cole.

He owned the car didn’t he?

If I'd turned up at that seller's site, I'd have run a mile.

I didn't know sheepskin coats and bombsite car yards were still a thing.

Seemed to have the later front end too. Nice car. I doubt I would have been given the same discount if I had goone to view the car laugh

I think it's the question of him being on PH ?

They really bigged up the history of that Griff, like it was a significant Press Demo and then Development car for TVR, which is not true!

Yes - I'm asking if Steve Cole, the owner for iirc 12 years and an ex-works TVR driver is on PH.

Not sure that it's a very exciting or difficult question.

Just curious to hear of his TVR experience.
