Three hundred thousand miles so far

What an amazing achievement.
Are you a trained mechanic by any chance
You’d think after 300,000 miles you would be
See even when a Tvr proves itself some clever dick has to try and make a joke of it.
Come on then tell us how many rebuilds and body offs it’s had in that time.
Have you got a picture because I for one think this is a fantastic milestone. Congratulations

Yes - a significant achievement!
On each leg of the journey to Angouleme for Remparts, I was engaged by other drivers in the queues to board our ferry.
It was the usual Q & A session on "they break down, don't they"?
My usual retort is that my car, a 2004 Tuscan, has >106K on the clock....and it's been on the back of a low loader twice. The first occasion as a result of a failed clutch master cylinder outside the dentist's surgery in Southampton. The second was when the ECU decided it was time to die outside my house.
This thread just reinforces the sense that the (any!) car needs to be used regularly!
As for servicing - well, a pal with a 2010 Cayman has had bills for >£4.5K for the last 2 major services....and that was not agreeing to do all the work highlighted on the pre-service appraisal.

I always like to drop this photo in when TVR reliability is in question.
On our way to Spain and got blocked in for a while.
Bloody hell. I don't think I've driven that in all my cars put together over the last 30 years.
PS I know who you are! (Just seen your profile.) I no longer climb due to other interests getting in the way but I first met you at Craggy Guildford... and have probably helped to keep your TVR on the road.

This is amazing!
This is as impressive as a million miles in a Volvo
And just by curiosity, have you done a lot of work on the engine? I know some owners with factory engines who are very happy and some with rebuilt ones having troubles.
For it's first 12 years (2004-16) this was my only car, so if I needed to drive I needed to drive the TVR. If anything has ever needed replacing or fixing it always has been done. The big question is always about the engine. Well, it got to about 160,000 miles before anything major needed doing at which point Power sorted out the top end and converted it to a 4.3l. At the time they offered a new block too but I declined as I want to keep the original if possible. However a few years later I had a persistent coolant loss. This took 18 months to trace. It was the tiniest hole in the block that would only 'appear' when the engine was really hot. Not just 'trackday session hot' but 'a few constant hours driving hot'. However pressure testing cannot be done with a super hot engine so tracking this down was nigh on impossible so a replacement block was fitted at about 240,000 miles, again by Power. Obviously 300,000 miles slightly alters your perception of what is or isn't a consumable. I think we are on clutch number 7. No idea how many tyres I have got through, definitely plenty of engine mounts but I am impressesed how many parts are still working ....... I don't think too many people expect any car to cover this many miles let alone a sports car. Especailly a TVR, if conventional wisdom is to be believed. The front has been resprayed a few times, stonechips are inevitable, particularly if there are a few trackdays a year thrown in.
So apart from the engine work and the Nitrons the car is pretty close to standard as it left the factory. I spec'ed it with the factory and bought it from The TVR Centre in Barnet. When this closed I followed the guys (Martin, Graeme and Skippy) from there to Hertford, Ware and now Bishops Stortford at Hilton and Moss. Between them the guys have serviced the car 50 times! I believe that Graeme's first PDI when he started was on this car so he has a long history with it and he probably knows the quirks of the car as well as I do. Every now and again I get the guys at Top Cats to sort out the geometry set up and between their work, Powers work and the regular work from Skippy and Graeme the car is going better than ever, as any one at Cadwell last week can attest (I hope). The one 'upgrade' missing is slightly better brakes. Sometime ago I had some better discs from CL but sadly I believe they are no longer available, if any one knows otherwise please let me know....
