I'm looking at an S3 so was looking into parts availability and there seems to be a dearth of spares for the model. Is the S just an unpopular model or am I looking in the wrong places?

Hi David,
Can I suggest that you look on the S series forum on here/Pistonheads?

The S owners are a resourceful lot, and over the years have found alternative sources for most of the parts on the S.
I think that quite a few of the current owners have 'migrated' to Facebook and there is an FB "S Owners" Group....Even if you don't 'do' facebook, it's probably worthwhile opening an account just for the additional information it provides.

On pistonheads, you'll recognise the frequent posters/replyers(?) and long standing owners who know their cars intimately, who are amenable to private emails for help.

All the "big Dealers" tend to focus on the Chim/Griff and later cars but there are only a few S parts that are getting tricky to locate. All standard service items are readily available and there are tried and tested "work arounds" for one or two parts that are now obsolete/very rare.

have you found the "alternative Parts List" on here, it's a good starting point to find out where TVR sourced many of the parts from, largely Ford.

Racing Green have an extensive parts list : https://partsfortvrs.com/tvr-parts/by-model/s-seri...

It would also be worth talking to your local TVR mechanic/workshop. They usually know what can be bought and what can be made to work. For example, my 1989 S2 now has a Subaru Impreza radiator, a Chimaera throttle assembly, and V8S clutch cylinders. And by looking at the alternative parts list here on Pistonheads, I found that 1990s Nissan rear screen wiper arms are a suitable replacement for the S items.

Thanks for the replies guys. The situation doesn't seem as bad as I thought; I guess I've been spoiled by the availability of parts for other old British cars and VWs.

The parts interchange list seems particularly useful.
