Chimaera Hazard Lights Only Work On RH
Discussion
Can anyone help me understand why only the RH Indicators operate when the Hazard Light button is pressed?
I’ve had the dash off, checked the Relays, checked the Dashboard Switching Unit box, checked the ribbon harnesses and no clue. I took the Hazard switch out and cleaned the PCB up and checked for dry solder joints - couldn’t find anything.
An interesting observation is that when the hazard switch is on and the RH lamps work, if I indicate left with the Indicator stalk the LH lights do flash and the red ring on the Hazard Switch illuminates. Direction Indicators operate correctly when not using the Hazards.
Please help as it’s a MOT stopper Thanks

I don't know how it's implemented on the Chimaera, but the way hazard lights typically work is there is a flasher unit which has a supply from the hazard switch assembly. When the hazard switch is in the off position this is connected to an ignition switched supply. When it's in the on position this is fed from a permanent supply.
The output from the flasher unit goes to the indicator switch where it is connected to either the left or right indicator circuits depending on the switch position. The output also goes to the hazard switch where it connects to both left and right if the switch is 'on'. The flasher unit will open and close the circuit periocally when there is a load on the output.
From the symptoms you describe I suspect that the switch in the hazard switch assembly which sends power to the flasher unit is working OK but the switch which connects the hazard switch assembly to the indicators is only connected to one of the indicator circuits. Since the non-working indicator does still operate from the indicator switch. this suggests the indicators, flasher unit and indicator switch are all OK - you are just missing the connection from the hazard switch assembly to the affected indicator circuit.

I managed to find a great local auto electrician who spent all day diagnosing the fault. The LH indicator relay on the Dashboard Switches Unit PCB had given up the ghost and was not replaceable. I did order a replacement unit of eBay but that also didn’t work so must have had the same symptom. The auto electrician bypassed the faulty relay by wiring in another relay manually and found a way to connect back to the LH and RH indicator circuits - legend of a guy as most people could not be bothered with the effort. I now have all dash functions working and know who to go to if anything comes up. Hope this helps anyone who has the same problem.
