I'm going to need to get a couple of rear tyres fairly soon and was wondering if anyone can tell me roughly what I should be expecting to pay per tyre ??

Size i need is 205/60/15 to fit a 350i.

Can anyone also recommend any good websites for buying tyres rather than going round the local tyre companies and paying full whack....

Cheers all

£84 each and great tyres! ZR rated with rim-protection.

Plus they're give you a little more flex on the rear end by gong up to 215 from 205's, dont worry thats spot on for 15" wedge rims.

What are you talking about? That's slightly too big a dia and slightly too wide for a 7" rim. They're OK but why not choose a 205/55/15, they're the correct width for the rim, increase steering response and acceleration. You can get some good tyres like the GSD2, SP9000, T1-S&R.

They're not low profiles man, 215/60 is on the spot. The SP9000's are round-sidewalled, the 7" inch rim will be fine, I remember another wedge owner at a meet a while back was running that size and didnt have any probs, so what you on about?

Cheers for the info so far.

As i'm only replacing the rear tyres I've ruled out going for a 55 profile for now just because I dont want two different diameters front to rear

Will look at the 215/60/15 option, could be a possibility.

I've got 400SE wheels fitted to my car (not the deep dish version). Are these 7" wide as well as the normal lattice type wheel??

I believe the 400SE stock rims were 7J, but dont quote me on this, there were some at 7.5J too.... just shove a tape measure through the spoke and measure from the the rear edge to the front

I wouldn't worry about that; just put your fronts on the rear and fit 205/55/15 to what are now your rear wheels but will become the front.

Yes it could be, depends what you use the car for. IMHO there's already a lot of sidewall with 205/60s with out increasing it to 215/60s. You could always look at 225/55s on the rear.

No, they are 7.5" wide. Are you sure that they are 400SE wheels because there isn't a deep dish version. Some 350i cars had wheels like that fitted that where 7" wide, is this where the confusion with you and Ash has arisen?

If you want to confirm the size , take the centre cap off , the size should be stamped near one of the holes .

Running off memory , but I think our 400's were 8 J's and the SEAC's 8.5 J's .

Firstly, its a big NO for moving front tyres to the rear on a RWD beast. You can get away with that on most hot-hatches, but its highly not recommended to weaken the rear end grip IMO.

Secondly, whatever tyres you get, try and keep in line with the style of fronts, dont match directional tread on the rear with non-directional tread on the front etc.

If need be, just a get a new set all round, and keep the existing tyres for trackdays (just pick up another set of used wheels, quite a few cheap deals going on ebay these days)

A few cerbie owners switched from the norm bridgestones etc to Falkens (ok not in the same league and are considered budget tyres, but) and have transformed their grip and handling to the level where they feel confident to throw their rides around even in the wet....

I'll have a check tonight or over the weekend and see what width rims I have (the diseasel citroen has come out today due to the rain!!)

I suspect 225's will be too wide for the rim. They are definatly 400SE wheels though I would guess they are 7J. My car is the Red one in the pic.

Currently have Fulda's fitted which seem pretty good. Havent entirely decided yet on replacement make but like the look of the Dunlops

That's an interesting statement given that the 400SEs all had 225/50/15s as standard. The 350i has 7J, the 400SE had wider wheels?

Thats a valid point, my reference bible tells me they did make 7J's. probably moved over to 7.5/8J's at some point, we all know what the factory used to be like back then, no two cars that rolled out were ever the same

Just a guess really, as currently have 205's on them and they seem to be a good fit while still bulging out from the rim a little. I think the extra 20mm might be too wide for them.. will check it out later.

I've had a 400SE and 450SE previously and these did have the wider rims and tyres.

Yeh Mines a bit of a mix and match car. It was supplied through Haughins and was due to be supercharged but the owner died before it could be completed. It has 400 series suspension parts and wheels in preparation for the upgrade though...

350w, from what you've said it does sound like you have the 350i wheels and not the 400 ones. Not that it matters really you just need to find out the rim width of your wheels whatever they are and it should be stamped on the inside.

I had the rears on my 390SE replaced last week.
The car has the '400SE type' split rim OZ wheels fitted, with 225/50 x 15 tyres.

I also have a 280i with cross-spoke 7J wheels (205/60x14)

The wheels off the 390 were MUCH wider than 7 or 7.5J.

I think yours must be 7J if your tyres have a bit of flex in them, as my 225s are virtually flush with the wheels (no bulge). The ride is excellent, despite this.

I have Toyo T1S tyres fitted all round.

Glad we've cleared that up - you have 350i wheels.
As for tyres what are your requirements? Originality? Comfort? UHP rubber? ...
