Just in the process of replacing the brakes on my 1992 Griffith and have a set of early (240mm front and solid rear) calipers.

What’s the difference in the pre-cat Griff/early Chimp and 500 spec brakes?

I know the precat/early chimp is 240mm ventilated front discs and solid rears

The 500 is 260mm vented fronts and vented rears

Obviously the rear calipers must be different to accommodate the thicker rear discs but are the front calipers also different?

All Chimaeras from mid to late '96 (first facelift) had the larger brakes fitted to the Griff and the 500, and many places have the wrong data on the rear discs. They are 273mm. Yes they are larger than the front because the hubs are bigger but the swept area is less.
