What is the best material for brake pipes? Steel or copper or something else and why? Not sure which way to go :-)

Cunifer, brass or steel depending on budget and how much work you're willing to put in to form the pipes.

Copper-nickel ('Kunifer') without any doubt. Gives the best combination of resistance to corrosion along with malleability without being too soft (which pure copper is, IMHO). It's not expensive, you can get a 25' roll for £15 ish.

The budget was exceeded years ago so its not an issue and Im not work shy just want the best - so if time and money wasnt an issue which would you go with?

I posted this on the TVR forum also.

Because I’ve had my car a long time, and taken it to pieces on a fairly regular basis ( body off etc).
Because of this I’ve replaced and re done the brake pipes in copper / cupro nickel on several occasions despite the fact there was nothing wrong with them.

So, the last build I did I used flexible stainless steel braided ptfe. A bit expensive, but when the car comes apart again these brake pipes can be removed, coiled up and then refitted.

Cunifer is the best option, but you should be aware that it's quite hard to work and will need the proper bending and swaging tools.

For replacing static lines, I use nothing but Kunifer both on my own and customers' cars.
As GAJon states, you could use braided throughout, but that would be a big step-up price wise.
