I have a guy abroad who wants to buy my S - how would this work with the V5? He would need to sign the V5c and he is buying from a video and pictures and wants to get a carrier to pick it up?

What is the scam ?

As it currently stands - I have a copy of his iD, his address and he has paid via bank transfer in full and it’s showing in my bank account. Do I still need to be concerned?

Do I also need to write to the DVLA to confirm it is being exported?

Do you know the ID is genuine?

I have heard of scams where you have the money, you release the car, then all of a sudden your bank informs you the money has been recalled because of a fraud being committed. You have no car and no.money and your buyer is nowhere to be seen.

Don't tell me, he's sending a courier to collect the car isn't he?

Yes ! Now I am worried. I have spoken to him over the phone? - perhaps I will refund the money and pull out of the deal?

The ID you have a copy of, how do you know it's him?

Where is the buyer? How much is the S?

There is no reason a genuine buyer wouldn't be able to travel from Europe to had over the money in person, or do a bank transfer in front of you.

I'd run. And fast.

Eta: Just Google Foreign car buyer scam.

the car will be handed over including the v5c. just the export-slip of the v5c remains at yours. you will sent this to DVLA. the V5c remains blank, without writing the new keep details, as the new keeper will be abroad.

Any update or thoughts OP?

Don't want to rain on your parade, but also don't want you to lose your car!

Hi - yes pulled out of the deal yesterday to be on the safe side. To be honest the guy seemed genuinely gutted, and even offered to get some English speaking friends to vouch for him. Sent me loads of pictures of cars he has with him in the pictures etc, but after chewing it over I have refunded his money and decided to move on. Might even keep the car as don’t really want to sell it but I have a Chim, so it’s a space issue more than anything. Will stick to UK offers going forward, thanks for all the feedback. It’s sad if the guy was genuine, but the world has all of us on high alert these days!

So where (country) was I going to go?

It's a shame with overseas buyers who are genuine, but the risk for the vendor just isn't worth it.

The guy was in Le Haillan. Yeah feel real bad if he was genuine, but all I kept thinking was how convincing some of these scammers can be. Apparently the scam is, even though you have the cash in your bank, they send a carrier to collect and then deny ever receiving the car and then it all kicks off, with them demanding the money back through fraud claims etc.
