Just had an email from Brighton & Hove Motor Club saying they’re short of entries for this year’s Speed Trials.
Thought it might be of interest to some of the TVR mob.

That's a sad first. They've always been heavily oversubscribed...
C'mon Derek, Baz...

I have considered doing this event for years, however the costs are prohibiting. Full race suit, gloves, boots and an up to date spec helmet is a big investment.

There you go. For a practice run and one main run. That's your day done. Plus you have to join B&H Motor Club and pay for a race licence.
Maybe I am just a tight git😁

If one were into sprinting (or indeed most other forms of motorsport) then one would already have the kit, and the licence. Requiring (temporary) Membership of the organising Club is not unusual, it helps to finance the event.
I've always considered it a privilege to just be present at what is probably the World's longest running motor event and, up until this year at least it seems, so have the many thousands of entrants ...some of whom looked to have started their motorsport in 1905 too laugh
Maybe Covid has taken its toll. Maybe it's done what even the Greens couldn't do...
Hope not.

I'm pretty sure they have abolished the road car classes. So, it's no real surprise they now find themselves with a lack of entries.

It's a great even but part of the fun for me was the huge variety and even sheer nuttyness of the road cars.

Was thinking about going to watch but Brighton is an awful place to park.

Really handy carpark in Kingswood St IIRC, only 10 mins walk from Madeira Drive

Where did you get that from? On the entry regs, there are 5 road going classes.

Think I had an email from either BHMC or MSA or both that the licence class for the speed trial was changing about national b non race now not being enough. Could be why they are now so under subscribed.

I normally park in the marina multistory and walk back from there. Basically free all day and although the ramps are tight, TVR friendly.

National B licences haven’t existed for a few years now, they’re just updating the requirements to the RS Interclub which is the replacement.

The last minute requests for more entries may be explained by this news that there will be no 'bikes running this year ...apparently the Grcensoredns controlled City Council have gone ahead and installed a new cycle lane along Madeira Drive rolleyes The cycle lane has pedestrian crossings (I kid you not) that project out from the pavement and, in the opinion of the VMCC, pose a danger to motorbikes, so they have decided to give it a miss this year, hoping the obstructions can be modified in time for a return in 2022.
Yep, sounds about right... furious

I'dve definitely entered this year but hadn't bothered to renew my Motorsport Licence and by the time I knew the event was confirmed I didn't have time left (letter from GP, etc.) Should be back for another go next year, fingers crossed.
