Eye Catching TVR Advert
Discussion
Saw this ad and here is a nice car in Devon if anyone fancies it. Apparently it is 'well looked after' and 'great looking classic Tvr in supper condition' (sic).
but hold on a minute,
'fuel pump not working' and 'brakes have been disconnected' followed by a disclaimer - 'sold as a restoration project/ spares/ repairs/ scrap as are all or cars regardless of condition' (sic).
and,
'Legals'. Dear oh dear, and 'none refundable deposits' (sic). Really?
Finally the seller ends with, 'all our cars are now sold as scrap'. No address or telephone number.
Roll up, roll up, the TVR bargain of the year.

Just out of interest and ignoring the 'sales bluff', what would you think was a reasonable price for a car in that condition with as a project car?
I'm keen to get a car I could really tinker with myself on the mechanics, so something like this would good bodywork would be the kind of thing I'd want. Thanks

Not sure about 280i prices but a couple of grand I would think.I'm keen to get a car I could really tinker with myself on the mechanics, so something like this would good bodywork would be the kind of thing I'd want. Thanks
Fuel pump and recommissioning the brakes £500.
It could be a bargain only an inspection will tell you.
Fuel pump and brakes are an easy fix, but chassis condition is paramount and as it's stood for so many years I'd be suspicious, especially as seller is silent on this. Other 280's sold as restoration projects have gone from £2 to £3k max so this is very over priced. I sold my fully running and good condition 350i for £5,500 the other year and it wanted for nothing........
Wow that's far to much. Could turn into an absolute pit with all the work that might be needed on the chassis and particularly the fuel system.
Mine is a very similar car and I got it a year and a half ago with an MOT for 3.5. Needed some work on the fuel system and a shabby interior and roof but otherwise sound.
This car has better bodywork and interior - but with the potential list of issues should not be going above 2-3 grand.

New servo by the look of the existing one, brake and clutch slave cylinders?, brake pads all round, new rad and hoses, fuel lines, fuel tank out and flushed, engine refresh bores and heads? new tyres all round, and as already said chassis and suspension bushes.............. and then there's the electrics. 2K tops
