HELP! Alarm Siren won't shut up!

For no reason this evening my alarm siren has decided to go off. No amount of activation/deactivation with my blipper has managed to cease the alarm from squeeling (loudly). However, the blipper is activating the doors/immobilisor as normal and the hazards aren't flashing when the alarm is squeeling.

I've tried searching the forum for a solution, but can't get a direct answer to solve it (i.e do THIS).

HELP PLEASE! (My neighbours can cope now, but will be getting stroppy in a few hours!) LOL

If it won't respond to the blipper, then it is almost certainly your siren that has given up the ghost. (I had this happen, though it usually happens during very wet weather).
Anyway, assuming it is still screaming, remove it from the car (two bolts and unplug it, then (and I'm being serious) wrap it in a large blanket and anything else just to muffle it until it's internal battery runs down. Then get yourself a new one - approx £80.

edited to add - try to position the new one so it either points down or backwards - to stop water ingress (don't wrap it in polythene...you still get damp in it)

And I could not persuade it to shut up - even with a club hammer..

It could not but it did shut up and let me go back to bed..

Happened to me in the middle of the night last night! BLOODY loud trying to remove siren in FULL BLAST only to find that it is self powered and was still going barmy!!!! So loud it actually hurts yer ears!

Had to kill it to shut it up, yep kill it. Patience was at a very low ebb by that time so I destroyed it - each successive blow causing it to shreek less until it only wimpered so then I prised it open and it finally bleeped its last - phew!

As luck would have it Ebay produced a brand new replacement this morning so I'm feeling better now.

Rev, was this the same siren unit that you gave swimming lessons to all those years ago when you owned the car?

Portfield replace the siren unit - the old one was battered beyond saving.. and it drowned.

I guess they only live 3~5 years.. sounds the same story as mine : you have my sympathy - they really are loud. My ears were ringing for days.

Mine ended its life at the bottom of my wash basket, in a wardrobe, wrapped in a sleeping bag!

when mine did this it was a dodgy connection to the siren unit - there's a rubber covered plug/socket whithc attaches it to the rest of the loom - if this comes undone it runs off the internal battery and goes off all the time. Just clean up the plug and reconnect - no probs since..

Simler problem with my alarm but it seems to be working backwards when the car is locked it goes into alarm but when i lock it it all goes quite. Any suggestions?

Sounds like they're out of sync. Random combinations of lock/unlock with remote & console button might fix it.
