18Kg+ childseat for chimaera
Discussion
Hi folks. Have been using a Maxi-Cosi Tobi child seat in my Chimaera to cart my toddler about.
Works well, as the Chimaera has long seat belt stalks, and the design of the child seat works for these.
Trouble is, he's going to hit the weight limit for the maxi-cosi shortly (18Kg), so I will need something the next size up that he can sit into, preferably something that just works off the cars own seat belt.
Looking for recommendations for what anyone else has found fits in the Chimaera, given the long seat belt stalks, and doesn't knacker the seats (I've had them redone, so really don't want them being ruined by the car seat.
Thoughts appreciated :-)

I think you might have to take the car to the shops, rather than ordering online, and try various seats until you find one that suits both the car and the child..
When my grandchildren were young enough to need car seats I just stuck their current everyday car seat in and it seemed fine.
I have no clue what make and model it was, but I can guarantee that it would have been one of the safer ones, as my daughter was, and is, paranoid about child safety.
Sorry it's not a more helpful answer.

No - thats ok. Thats absolutely what I will do, as I want to try and fit first, but before I do, its handy to get a view of what others have used so I already know which sits are compatible (which is how I ended up with the Maxi Cosi Tobi - as I knew other had used them in their griffomera's..)When my grandchildren were young enough to need car seats I just stuck their current everyday car seat in and it seemed fine.

I guess its kind already knowing 90% what you want before you get there - I've some very poor experiences with one or two car seat places...

I know the whole world doesn't have to drive a Volvo, but why would you put a precious child in a Chimaera? The
seats are just bolted to the fibreglass floor with 4 bolts, and the car wouldn't get a 1 star NCAP rating.
I guess so we can go for days out together in the Chim? - like I have done with both my son and daughter in their current (sub 18Kg) car seat since they were each 2?.seats are just bolted to the fibreglass floor with 4 bolts, and the car wouldn't get a 1 star NCAP rating.
Appreciate the seat is only held by 4 bolts, and it never went for NCAP testing, but frankly the integrity of the seat belt is far more significant than the seat bolts, and I would be more concerned about rolling the car than anything else.
That said, what is far more worrying, is trying to teach a 5 year old how to cycle safely on (relatively quiet) roads, even with an adult cycling behind them lit up with lights/high viz etc
We've kept our grandkids of the roads until recently. Now the older child (13 in September) is allowed to cycle part of the way to school, but we live on a de-restricted fast country lane with blind bends, so we have to drop him off where it is safer.
As for roll over protection, almost the first thing I fitted to my Chimaera was this, designed and made by Martin Short, ex-TVR Challenge and FIA sports car racer

I used the Maxicosi Ferofix in our Griff (same seats as the Chim of course); actually ours was called something else but the Ferofix looks identical to what we had.
The isofix prongs retract into the base, and the base is narrow enough to sit on the flat of the seat cushion between the side bolsters. The seat buckle fits up the side of the seat base ok despite the long stalk; it contacts the side of the child seat however I prefer that to having the buckle pulling across the front.
With the child seat back extended to maximum height, the head side rest gets pretty close to the door glass however it does still fit fine.
We haven’t got ours any more I’m afraid or you’d have been welcome to try it if you’re anywhere near. They’re a common seat however so I’m sure you’ll find one easily enough.
