Windscreen Damage
Discussion
You could pay to get it repaired?
I had a couple repaired by one of the national companies and was charged £60 which I thought was reasonable bearing in mind I was told at the time that a Tuscan screen was the best part of £800. I can still see the damage even after the repair, but that may be because I know the repair is there and my eyes are drawn to it.

Yes, I looking to see if there’s anyone local. Google keeps pointing me to Auto Windscreens.I had a couple repaired by one of the national companies and was charged £60 which I thought was reasonable bearing in mind I was told at the time that a Tuscan screen was the best part of £800. Excesses have been creeping up, mostly to cover the expense of heated screens and those with detectors in for automatic ranging in cruise control etc. Having to match manufacturer tints is required too. Some companies now charge £100. More if you don't use their 'approved' firm.
It's correct that windscreen claims do not count as a claim. However, one insurance company when I was getting car insurance quotes last year asked if I had made any claims in the last 5 years including for windscreens. I think it was Hastings....... Nobody else specified that. Also, be careful of policies such as their Essentials that come up top of the meerkat comparisons. They are fully comp but do NOT include glass cover!
I had a windscreen in 2018, 2019 and 2020 on different cars (and with different insurers) and never considered mentioning it at quote times.
I've probably had 8 glass claims in over 35 yrs of driving and the excesses have ranged from £0 (side glass passenger door on a classic policy for a Lotus) through £15 in the 1990s and last paid £75 for a Porsche Boxster in 2020 on a policy with Classicline. Even one of those glue repairs (sometimes possible for small cracks) are often free but my current insurer charges a £25 excess for that.
My neighbour paid over a £100 for a new windscreen in a Corsa because despite being able to get one on insurance, he was concerned it would count against him. The propaganda from some companies has worked there.
A Cerbera screen peppered in chips and beginning to go milky mysteriously turned into a crack (ahem...) on my car. I'd have no qualms on claiming for windscreens every time, they've garnered a hell of a lot of money from me over the years, and the fact the companies ambulance chase each other's customers doesn't help their image.

I don't think a repair counts as being a claim on the insurance, as the excess you pay pretty much covers the cost, £50 from memory.
So much of a muchness if organised yourself or through the insurance.
Some do. They generally don't affect the NCD but they can affect the claim risk, so the premium can rise but NCD stays the same. Some companies allow (or used to) different number of windscreen 'claims' before affecting the risk level (according to one underwriter I spoke with). So much of a muchness if organised yourself or through the insurance.
I have used one of the Halfords kits myself with an acceptable result (slightly different chip and not a TVR)
