EDIT: The window cleaner seems a decent bloke and has promised to pay to sort the damage. The intention of this thread is not to denigrate the window cleaner; I am calmer now than I was at the point I posted this thread, the damage will get sorted, and life will go on.

Can’t see anything on that vid that would have done that?

Doesn't matter, he's admitted it.

Me neither, unless he caught it with the hosepipe.

Have you gone way back through your vids just in case it could have been done maliciously by someone else?

Sorry to put that thought out there and raise suspicion but...nice new car, expensive paint, probably quite loud - could be worth looking into it a little further, perhaps - if only to put those concerns to rest.

I can understand your frustration but at least you have evidence. I'm imagining the hose has possibly been stood on, forcing a bit of grit into the surface at some point, and when the hose was dragged it's caused the scratch. Does the direction of the scratch match the dragging motion of the hose?

Thing is, the overall scratch shape seems to suggest an item was motionless, against the paint, with a certain amount of pressure, before the item moved, causing the scratch. I've had a shopping trolly bouncing into and along a car door previously and in another event a car was intentionally damaged with a sharp item. They both looked very different to each other.

Regardless, once it's repaired you'll forget about it and it will be back to perfection.

he should have not touched the car with the hose in the first place!
Definitely. It wouldn't have taken much effort to keep it away from the paintwork.

It looks like a lot of damage for a hose contact.
Microbore and Minibore are very soft and have a clear coating to avoid grit sticking to them.
It's possible but I'd have thought a single scratch would have been more likely.

Looking at the video, he is careful in his wrangling of the hose but the way the cars are parked makes it very difficult to navigate the area. Assuming it was cold, it wouldn't have helped either.

I had similar scratches on my Capri - it turned out to be a cat that lived in my road - or rather, used to live in my road.

Looks like it will polish in my opinion.

The main scratch is near vertical isn’t it, I can’t see how he did that with the hose. That said, it does look like he was deliberately clumsy with it to me.

I agree - does not look like a hose could cause such a deep scratch judging from the nature of the contact with the car on the videos.

Regardless of whether he caused the damage (probably)...what a , almost looked like he did it ‘accidentally on purpose’. I share your incandescence.

He clearly isn’t the brightest.

But why didn’t you move your car beforehand? To me it’s an obvious at risk environment to have some bozo with equipment around it.

Yes it's irritating, and I feel your pain, but it doesn't actually look too bad and a detailer will make that invisible (to everyone but you). These things do happen, and sooner or later you'll get a parking ding or something. I'd avoid insurance over something so trivial if you possibly can.

If you put it through your insurance, your premium will increase.
I’d be inclined to see how much of it can be polished out.

The premium on all three of my cars would increase, which would be very annoying. However, see my post above about why I am nervous about not mentioning it to them.
I don’t think I’d be worried about that.

My only nervousness is that I don't mention it to the insurer, then a body shop says it can't be polished out and due to the flip paint can't be matched, so the rear end needs resprayed - and insurer says I should have reported it more quickly so they're not interested and the window cleaner says I am not paying that much and disappears. I know this is a relatively unlikely outcome, but it would also be a very expensive one.
How long have you had the window cleaner?

I'm sure that'll polish out. It does look severe for the amount of contact the hose made.

Although the window cleaner was careless, you've blocked his access from one side by parking the Rover at such an angle. He had to zigzag in-between the cars.
