Finally sorted my heating and ventilation issues on the Tamora and putting the covers back on the heater flap. Question is how do I secure them as I can only get self tapers in on two sides of each box.

Silicone is probably the answer but which type? I am worried that once bonded I won’t be able to get the covers back off as I only have blade access to cut the silicone on one side. Any recommendations for a “softer” setting compound that will seal the boxes but still come apart when needed?

This sealant stays soft

How do I know? Used it to fill a hole that was once filled with a boot release button, it's still soft after 6 years, wrong sealant for my job though as I needed it to go off hard

Caravan panel seal/mastic should do it.

This type of sealant never sets hard so easy to pull apart if needed.

Butyl tape is the ideal stuff for that. It sticks to most things, doesn't set, it forms a strong seal and is chemically stable. It's also easy to separate just by slowly pulling the joint apart, and easy to clean off the residue.

I don't know whether the other products linked to are butyl based, but it's often used to seal windscreens and caravan panels and so on, so they may well be.

Thanks chaps, I have some windscreen sealant and butyl tape in the garage somewhere, I’ll have a play and see which works best.
