Check the fitting of the roof struts periodically guys, bottom nut came off one of mine on the tam net result I lost the targa in the outside lane of the M6 toll last week! An experience I can tell you, it landed 100 meters behind me, in the middle lane and missed all the traffic thankfully. It’s completely fked unfortunately so if anyone has a spare lying around please let me know

Knackers.
My l/h side one on my Chim sometimes vibrates the pin out but never all the way. I’ll effect a proper repair as I could easily have had this happen,,, Toll road, not slow then! Foook!

Sorry to hear that & thanks for the heads up.
If you can't get another targa panel you can always go for the cambria cirrus folding one. They're not cheap (c £600) but easier to stow (in my Griffith at least).

Ouch, sorry to hear of your pain - The roof is an unnecessary feature anyhow, they don't belong on a TVR :0)

A friend of mine had a similar experience on the M25 in his Mk1 Tuscan a few years ago, the pin hadn't been secured properly and had to retrieve it from the fast lane

Hope you get yours sorted soon

That sounds a bit of a nightmare. Hope you find a replacement.
Thanks for the heads up.
I'll heading out side right now to check.

I always thought the point of the front clips was to prevent that scenario.

No clips at the front, the chrome dome headed nut at the lower part of the strut comes loose and the wind catches the rear section and pulls it back an inch or two, allowing the main roof to make a bid for freedom, not uncommon, I would change all the nuts for the nyloc version or use threadlock.

Good luck in finding a replacement smile

Its slightly worse than that.

If you remember back to your school physics lessons, when you managed to stay awake for once because teacher mentioned aeroplanes....

An aeroplane flies because the air moves faster over the top of the wing than the bottom, thus creating an area of lower air pressure above the wing and hence lift.
A TVR roof is a similar shape to an aeroplane wing seen front to back, so as you drive lift is created, and if the panel is not held tight in place, it takes off.
Mine did at 115 mph at Snetterton, went 30 feet up in the air (we weren't metric then) and luckily for me it came down on the grass at the side of the track.
Guy behind me pitted for new undercrackers.

I lost my S targa panels at Snetterton too .. bounced aggressively across the kerbs onto the start/finish straight .. resulting body shake popped the struts loose and one panel landed in the middle of the track .. red flag.

Rest of the track day spent roofless, and 15mph slower down revvit straight as a result.

The S (and wedges?) had clips at the front - the Griff and Chim just have a notch in the centre)

Then go to Uni and they tell you there are competing theories with incomplete explanations hehe

They didn't cover aerodynamics in Medical Sciences, sadly. whistle

And that ignores any pressure effects of farting in the cabin smile

Used to get this in Westfields were the bonnet catches were forgotten.....40mph is enough to really send one and they never land gently on the grass either.

Replaced the chrome nuts on mine a few months ago, but thread lock is not such a bad idea thinking about it.

If you haven't already got a replacement a call to Platsicman on here would probably get one made for you.

Thanks guys, eBay came up trumps so it’s sorted now. Anyone fitted any retaining clips/catches to stop it happening again?

I'm in (the middle of) doing that on my Chimaera. But I have a Steve Edwards roof, so not the same as the standard TVR one.
Catches are easy to get hold of, and Steve has made some mounts to go on the windscreen surround. I just have to pluck up the courage to drill holes in the edge of roof panel to take the spring catches themselves.
