Hi All,

I am the very proud owner of a new TVR Chimeara to me. Given the nature of classic cars and their old school nature of not having clever computers in them, I thought I would try and establish what are the sort of things I need to keep an eye on the car.

Thought I would try and break it down to Monthly, Quarterly and Yearly.

Any help greatly appreciated.

AJN.

Hi,
Welcome to the forums.

I'd imagine this schedule is printed in the owner's handbook - certainly the 6K and 12K mile service checks.
If not, then do a Google search, and feel fairly confident you'll get this information from there.

Failing that, it's fairly common sense stuff - - fluid levels, security of electrical connections, condition of chassis, tyre condition/age/wear patterns.

Enjoy.
Nick

Thanks Nick,

I get the £6k and £12k information and the pointing back the owners book, but it is more of the general stuff I am interested in, ie what should I be keeping an eye out on the car to make sure I don't cause any undue damage through the lack of not checking anything.

My plan is that I will be sending the car off for the 6k and 12k services to a local specialist, so I am not unduly worried by these at this moment in time.

Thanks

AJN.

I would suggest the really simple things that should be done on all cars but seldom are: water, oil, tyre pressures. Tyre pressures are really low on the Chimaera compared to 'ordinary' cars.

Congrats on getting your Chimaera.

Cant really say I had any real routines between services.

I remember on my first Chimaera having a misfire problem.
Called a mate who told me to check my plug leads were 'tidy'.
Turned out that two leads were touching the silver backed insulation material on the underside of the bonnet and causing a short.

Welcome to the world of TVR's!

I would suggest getting hold of a copy of the 'Bible'. This covers both the Chimaera and Griffith and full of useful technical advice. I had a Chimaera for 12 years before the getting a Tamora. The Chimaera looked after itself between services, I'm not so lucky with the Tamora, however I am rather particular and like to ensure everything is just right.

A few points;

Keep a eye on the coolant level - each car will find it's own level. Mine was about 2-3 inch from the bottom of the tank, being the swirl pot (smaller one on the off side). If you overfill, it will throw out what it doesn't require finding it's own level again.

When not in use connect to an Accumate or CK charger to keep the battery charged - they go flat quicker than you think when not in use and it's a pain to get jump leads on if you don't have the Anderson mod.

Drive it and enjoy!
