Mobil 1 fully synthetic 15/50 engine oil
Is this a decent oil to use in a 400 Chimaera ?

I wouldn’t use Mobil 1 products as they seem to have a bad reputation these days from what I’ve read online.
2 to consider which are great quality, I use the penrite.

Don't fall for the 'recommended' story. Mobil 1 was provided to TVR Engineering FOC on the understanding that they would put a 'recommended' sticker under the bonnet. 'It'll do & it's free' isn't a very good recommendation in my book

I think Mobil 1 was the best stuff out there at the time for the job, it was chosen for a reason any oil company would have given tvr the same deal.
It was at the time very expensive.

It still is expensive
Still wonwondering why it's not up to the job.

In reality it will probably be fine, it used to be one of the most highly regarded years ago so can't be that bad today.
Me personally when I read mostly negative stuff online I tend to leave it alone.
If you plan to use it just keep an eye on the pressure hot and cold, one of the negatives I've heard is it loses pressure when it's hot compared to others.

Oh well if thats correct I won't be using it!!
I've always thought it's more important to change it inbetween service intervals belt and braces.
I know oil is far better now but it seems cheap maintenance to me.

I'm not seeing any scientific facts to support the negative views about Mobil oil. confused

When Dom at Powers rebuilt my 400 when fitting the turbo he said a branded 10/40 was perfectly okay. So I always used Shell Helix 10/40 with no issues at all. smile

Changing regularly as you say is far more important.
I think the cam wear issue on here is blown out of proportion.
I know a local garage owner that puts 10/40 semi in whatever comes through the door!

- - Bottom line is that probably all the manufacturers get the base stock for their synthetic oils from Esso Fawley.

This was the first refinery to produce synthetic lube-oil base stock
...Mobil and Esso merged about 20 years ago.

OK, likely some niche oil brands alter their additive recipe/package to give them a marketing edge?
