Blackpool sites of interest!
Discussion
I will be visiting Blackpool to collect my car after some retrim work in the next week or two and it occurs to me that while there it would be fun to visit some of the historic TVR sites (if they still exist).
Just looking for some tips really on places to go - so for example Hoo Hill and I believe there's a cafe up the road from the last TVR factory although I don't know what it's called. Any information would be welcome.
Finally I'd like to find the back alley where this picture was taken in order to reproduce it with my car as it's my favourite Griff pic ever! I gather from an ex TVR employee that it was he thinks in Blackpool somewhere so can any local residents point me to a location?
Many thanks,
Saxon

No info on where to go in Blackpool apart from the old factory site @ Bristol ave or whats left of it.
Concerning the picture, that looks typical of somewhere in Yorkshire, because of the type of stone the wall and houses are made of.
Definitely not Blackpool.
Was your Griffith ever retailed by TVR MADS as this could explain the picture and the Yorkshire connection.

Some time ago when I posted a piccy of my Griff on PH with a previous owner on a track day and asked if anybody new where the circuit was, a reply came back where it was and the sender said he used Google to locate it. Whether he was pulling my leg I don't know.

Your photo is nowhere I recognise in Blackpool, more like East Lancashire.
Regarding TVR history. Your three premises are Beverley Grove, Hoo Hill & Bristol Avenue. You could also include X-Works in Kirkham because the last couple of Sag's were assembled there.
Trevor's original workshop on Beverley Grove is now the house as shown. Hoo Hill premises still exists and still being used by the motor trade. The bulk of Bristol Avenue premises has been flattened but front part still houses TVR people as DC Trim, Surface & design & Lawfield Engineering.
They now look as the photos from early February below.........

George Formby's former residence if you interested.
George Formby!George Formby!
What a keep on truckin' life.
Always an aficionado of the British aptitude for a catchy tune.
Well - don't play the banjo or the uke.
But we''ll sub in the 88's and add a big dose of the Pistols and Mick Jones.
What we end up with is a sight seeing tour of ol' London.
And yes - we pay still pay attention to the UK.
What TVR people do as a lark over here in the colonies:

Is the road ahead still clear as a motor way?

Is Grantura still operating? The company has filed "dormant" status accounts for the last 2 years and the website still refers to the 2015 racing calendar for the Dunlop European TVR Championship and you can still even download the registration form for 2015!
Had a cup of tea & a chat with John a few weeks ago, yes. I am pretty sure that the first two of these pics were taken at Hoo Hill in 1970.
If you do visit and recognise either of the locations, please let me know.
The young woman peering through the window is now 83, but still going strong.
The young lad in the Ventora is now 51 and is typing this post.
The chap behind the camera was my Dad, who obviously liked the colour of TVR's Vixen demonstrator.
The last pic is Dad's Tuscan LVX1806/6, which has some very minor historical significance, as it was the very first TVR to emerge from the new Bristol Avenue factory on 04.01.1971.

Thanks for the replies guys - really interesting and good to know that Hoo Hill is still there and I will take some pics and see if I can spot the areas in your photographs Pat H. I will be at Bristol Road anyway collecting the car from D&C Trim. Apparently there is a cafe near the Bristol Road factory which was frequented by the workers so might pop in there for a brew if it looks decent.
I agree that the Griff pic looks like East Lancs or Yorkshire - it's just a shame that I haven't a clue where to start! I spent quite a bit of time searching on Google for cobbled street Lancashire but the problem is much of what my search returned were old photographs and many of those places may have been bulldozed. I also contacted Ben Samuelson on Twitter to see if he remembered where it was taken because it was a factory promo shot but he didn't reply.
That's not actually my car in the promo pic, it's just the same colour. My car however was originally sold by Harrogate Horseless carriages so does have a Yorkshire connection.
Anyway it looks like my car will be ready to collect by the end of next week, can't wait to see the transformation after a full retrim and a lot of other fettling too. I will for example finally have a demist system that works, wing mirrors that adjust and a center concole that lights up plus a radio that works (last installer fitted a powered aerial in the boot and didn't earth it!).
If anybody finds out more re: the cobbled street I'd be very interested.
Thanks,
Saxon

They probably walked into Bispam village close by, same as we did from college. I can't think of any other cafes they'd use. It won't be obvious when you drive Into Hoo Hill industrial estate which were TVR buildings.
If your struggling to find, message me and if I'm not in work, I'll show you.
Kev.
Jurgen, brilliant idea re: the Facebook group!! Also Kev thanks for the offer re: Hoo Hill, will come back to you if I'm struggling to find the TVR location.
You're such a kind and helpful group on here I find that incredibly inspiring!! I haven't been particularly active in TVR events for around 12 years or more due to my car having a very annoying electrical gremlin that caused it to be too unreliable to use really, plus a career change that meant I couldn't really afford to run it and a job that meant I worked most weekends. Anyway all that has changed and the gremlin is cured so I'm so looking forward to getting actively involved again in the club and the Goodwood breakfast meets and hopefully meeting more of you and your fabulous TVR's!!
Thanks for the help so far!

That's right - it's an original factory publicity photo.
I'd like to do some photographs of my TVR while I am up there in some iconic Blackpool locations and was just wondering:
1. Can I drive on Blackpool beach?
2. Anybody know the location of some of the slipways used by TVR in their advertising (assuming I trust my handbrake!! )
3. Can I drive on to the ramp/paved area around the RNLI lifeboat station?
4. Any other suggested locations where I can park the car in front of classic Blackpool landmarks.
This thread isn't just of benefit to me, it's potentially of benefit to any TVR owners in future who take their cars to Blackpool for a pilgrimage.
Thanks in advance,
Saxon
