Speed bumps in South Tyneside

After having to negotiate 18 speed bumps within one mile a group of us in South Tyneside intend to take the council to task over the prolifferation of these unnecessary obstacles.I would welcome any input from pistonhead members.

we have thirteen in a 3/4 mile stretch in our village! it is a pain in the proverbial and despite trying to take the council to task they won't change them. One householder has taken to digging up the speed bump outside his house!!

Yup, I damaged both of them. Got a nice cheque for £1000 of the council's insurance dept.

That was due to the planning application stating the humps would be 65mm high and in fact, they were 95mm.

We need to go out with our measuring sticks and mark every hump that isn't in compliance with what was planned, then get plenty of volunteers to "damage" their cars on them. I've got two damaged cats in the garage if needs be

Count me in - scraped mine in North Tyneside (Heaton) while only doing 1/4 mile an hour on a main road. Judging by the number of scrapes on the hump itself, it was taking out more than just low slung sports cars

If you have the time and inclination you could protest peacefully. Drive up to a speed hump and stop there. When the police arrive to deal with the obstruction you are causing, tell them you are trying to get to village 'X' along the road but do not want to damage your car by driving over the obstacle.

You allow them to peacefully move you on then along comes protester no. 2, then 3 etc. etc.
