What jobs have you done yourself?
Discussion
I'm aware there are a lot of very hands-on, capable mechanics on here. I'm none of those things, but I'm looking to start bringing my Chimaera up to scratch. There are some things like the paintwork that I wouldn't dream of doing myself, but other things like replacing the dash that I'm contemplating trying at home.
So my question to those with a similar lack of mechanical ability is: What have you surprised yourself by being able to do at home? Any little odd jobs that made a big difference?

The dash is relatively easy if you are systematic and label everything. The lower radio panel is tricky to get the clips lined up for gluing but others might have a suggestion to make it easier.
There are numerous other projects that the PH TVR community will help you with. Both for up-grades and trouble shooting.

I changed the front wishbones myself on my last Chimaera which was very satisfying. Took longer than planned, and I had fully expected to have to pay to have it done. I found that with judicious use of a spanner and a jack, I was able to undo the mounting bolts. None were seized or had to be cut off. On a 21 yr old car with 59k miles on it.
Of course, it ended up with new balljoints and refurbed shocks as well. The front anti roll bar bushes were really awkward but I managed to do them with the radiator in situ. Which ended up coming out later anyway.

Tightened the mirrors, you are kidding, I wouldn’t tackle them buggers
Do what I did, a lot of talking then just let Powers do it properly
You have to take every task on its difficulty level and your skill/ tools.
Without some spannering experience most things might seem difficult.
My way would be chose a job then ask on here, that should give you plenty of info to decide if it’s worth taking on yourself.
If your an avid reader these pages must be full of things you can read up on.
Goodluck.

I am in the middle of changing the dash fascia on my Cerbera. No big deal I hear you say BUT I am a novice on DIY. So I have changed over all the dials from the old fascia to the new one and now I just need to get it back into the car and wired back up!!.
That IS a big deal. I need to replace a couple of LEDs on mine, MIL and Ice sensor. The whole panel, especially the LEDs, seems to have liberal amounts of glue around everything! Wondering what is going to break, while I'm trying to fix those!TV8 said:

That's one of the things I'm pondering whether or not to attempt myself. Pupp said:
Changed the main fuse; tightened the mirrors
You may joke, but that's the sort of thing I'm talking about. I'm sure there are people out there who've taught themselves to weld and then done all their own chassis repairs in their garage ... that's a bit beyond me. Silly little things like changing the switch modules for the indicators or even just swapping the HT leads are all worth doing with zero mechanical skill. Spray painted the back bumper and rear quarter panel........on my X Trail.
Just need to get some more lacquer and some dry weather to complete the job.
I drew the line at paying £480 to have some spotty yoof touching up my pride and joy, when it was shed money in the first place.
TVR doesn't require my attention right now
