The bloody thing is doing my tits in, 3rd recovery truck in 6 weeks required.

So far this year:

2 new tyres £303
Service higher cost than any other due niggling stuff like heater blower ECU overhaul, seized/snapped studs on simple jobs, £1,452
Slave cylinder failed on M25, new slave, clutch & flywheel £2,077 + £35 recovery
Attempted first run after clutch, wouldn't start. Endless diagnostics to reveal fault in fuseboard, £689 + £95 recovery.
Attempted second first run after clutch/fuseboard:

Power steering fluid all over the drive, cost tbc

So year to date £4,651 for a grand total of 95 miles. Probably another £600 plus to get the latest fix.

It's gotta go, need to get something less wallet draining like a Lotus.

Big Al.

All that stuff is why I sold my Tuscan. I now have a Lotus Evora. 95% of the performance, 200% of the handling, 10% of the maintenance cost.

It doesn’t look like you’ve had it that long, and so I think you’ve just been unlucky and/or the previous owner neglected decent servicing.

Had my Tuscan nearly 9 years now and she’s probably averaged about £2.5k pa in servicing including a rebuild

The Griff on the other hand I’ve owned for 4 years and it has averaged £3.5k pa, mainly due to age and poor service in its previous life

As my wife says, I’m gradually building 2 new cars 😀

This thread makes me sad for you and it brings back bad memories of when I had my TVR. I was without it for about 9 months while the engine was rebuilt/new crank/new cylinder head/clutch/slave cylinder etc. It cost me a fortune and I got the car back and put it in the garage. I was moving house a couple of days later and I went to start it and it wouldn't start! banghead

So it was then put back on a trailer and sent back to where it had been for the last 9 months! TVR ownership is a serious rollercoaster ride for sure. frown

I feel for you.

£2000+ for a clutch, slave and flywheel. 😱. That sounds steep!

We’re used to sensible Rover V8 prices. Every time I look lovingly at a Tuscan, I then read a thread like this and think I am lucky to have the car I do. Not that my ownership has been cheap, but a lot if it has been a self-inflicted search for more track day power.

Good luck getting it fixed, OP

Funny you should say that, last Summer I traded my tin-top Cooper S for a soft-top to enable an Evora or Cayman. Should have pushed the button back then.

Absolutely not, had it over 6 years and both myself and the one previous owner have been fastidious about maintenance. Every invoice back to birth in these two:

Has been averaging £1000-£1500 pa for the previous 5 years, ignoring the respray.

Nope, that’s the price of S6 vs RV8, £1500+ in parts

Don't lose faith, stick with it. An Evora might be cheaper to maintain, but it will never be a Tuscan.

Nothing too sinister, the Diagnostics wouldn't read off the ECU so its was manual detective work tracking through all the wiring stages once my ECU was proven sound in their T350. Fuseboard out is also a bit of a PITA in these.

There's a man I meet walks up our street
He's a worker for the council
Has been twenty years
And he takes no lip off nobody
And litter off the gutter
Puts it in a bag
And never seems to mutter
And he packs his lunch in a "sunblest" bag
The children call him "bogie"
He never lets on
But I know 'cause he once told me
He let me know a secret about the money in his kitty
He's gonna buy a Tuscan
Gonna call her Dignity

And I'll drive her up the west coast
Through villages and towns
I'll be on my holidays
They'll be doing their rounds
They'll ask me how I got her I'll say "I saved my money"
They'll say isn't she pretty that Tuscan called Dignity

And I'm telling this story
In a faraway scene
Sipping down whiskies
And reading TVR magazines
And I'm thinking about home and all that means
And a garage in the winter for Dignity

And I'll drive her up the west coast
Through villages and towns
I'll be on my holidays
They'll be doing their rounds
They'll ask me how I got her I'll say "I saved my money"
They'll say isn't she pretty that Tuscan called Dignity

And I'm thinking about breakdowns
And I'm thinking about recovery
And I'm thinking about battery drains
And how difficult Dignity can be..............

Keep saving your money and never lose your Dignity

Must be something in the air, my next door neighbour has a 911 Turbo as his weekend toy and its just cost him over £2k for two hydraulic pipes to his steering rack.

Yes, but it’s a 911. Even emptying the ashtrays on a 911 involves taking the engine out....

I ran my car for about 6 years before the big bills started, full body off chassis restore and rebuild, clutch, respray, last year the engine.
In total of 12 years of ownership I've spent around £30k, but the car is almost like new now and the bills should be minimal...
