Classic Spa 2019
Discussion
Back yesterday from the Classic, a very good showing from TVR owners, plenty of cars to see and owners to chat to.
Not many cars in the PH area, seems most like us booked with Fast track tours.
It seemed very quiet this weekend, not very busy at all on the Sunday, more people there on the Saturday, we had to queue to get in with the cars, on Sunday drove straight into the circuit. Plenty of racing but not much of it was close as they had different performance cars in each category, although the Escorts, Capris and old BMW's put on a very good show. As always seeing and hearing the old cars race around was amazing, nice to see Vincent Gaye there again racing his very expensive Ferrari.
The weather kept off, only a slight drizzle at times to worry about
Jason from Str8Six gave a talk about his racecar, which was informative, then allowed some to sit in the car.
Interesting to see this racecar put back onto the road, with what looked like no changes other than bolt on numberplates
The only poor point was the behaviour of some on the parade laps. On session 4 someone had an accident meaning the session was red flagged so the circuit organisers wanted to cancel all remaining sessions. They relented but it meant that every other session would be undertaken behind a pace car. So no full pace laps, instead people were backing off and queuing so they could take some corners and straights at pace then catch up the pace car.
This wasn't good enough for some, who were still trying to turn it into a full race session. In our case, we let two morgans past but worse was a GB green Chimeara who was late braking and diving for the inside at trying to overtake at the most ridiculous points, very slow out of corners meaning everyone overtook him. He twice nearly caused an accident, once at La Source diving late for the corner as everyone queued and again later charged into Eau Rouge at the bottom of the hill as everyone had slowed.
For that idiot - I have front and rear cameras recording all your poor driving which is being sent to our organiser.
On this same session someone overtook the pace car, putting all further sessions at risk. All sunday sessions then had three pace cars keeping three groups moving slowly. Just a few idiots spoilt it for all, even though that idiot was banned from track.

The bloke in the green Chim was a proper t**t, if I hadn't been watching my mirrors I'd have turned in on him entering Eau Rouge as he stuffed it up the inside, thought he was a "proper racing driver".
He'd obviously never been near a track before, and as for the two Morgans.....
I know - I had to brake hard last minute and stay right, before he barrelled in as you went to turn in.He'd obviously never been near a track before, and as for the two Morgans.....
Video's - I won't bother with track time again

Several years ago the parade laps were a lot of fun....first lap slow behind a pace car, the remaing with full speed but all behaved very well.
Looking at the first video doing 59km/h in Eau Rouge...better to invest the money in some beer for the friends :-)
Yep, I won't be doing them again!Looking at the first video doing 59km/h in Eau Rouge...better to invest the money in some beer for the friends :-)
