Hello chaps, I’m currently trying to buy a Cerb that I’ve seen and interested in, but I’m wondering if the head gasket has gone or going. Here are the symptoms that I’m not sure about...

The coolant water has micro bubbles occurring when the engine is revved up and smells of exhaust gas.

With the oil filler cap removed there is very noticeable pulsing with every beat of the engine.

The temp goes up and down very rapidly (as in snap up and down) on the gauge.

Tick-over is a bit iffy.

Can you help me? Thank you in advance.

Best test is a sniff test (combustion leak tester) about £10.
Sucks an air sample from the rad/header tank/swirl pot and passes it through a chemical that will change colour if combustion gasses are present. HG fail, cracked head, cracked block etc.

Maybe we should all have one of these in our tool box!
Peace of mind etc and a good way to an early diagnosis of a major problem building.
I’ll be buying one now after realising this.
I’ve used one before but never think of getting one as a tool for future use just as a precautionary measure. Hmmm live and learn. Thanks for the tip wink
