I've bought a couple of second hand rocker cocers and have now had them vapour blasted locally. The results are impressive! (Can post pics if interested but not from this PC)

So now for painting... (Don't fancy powder coating.) I'd like to use a specific metalic blue (a BMW colour, shhh, don't tell!) and have read reports on here that regular acrylic rattle cans work just fine, as the temperature of the rocker covers is hot but not blistering. VHT paints seem like an overkill and only appear to come in limited primary colours. Not really what I want. Intention is to sand down the ribs back to the alloy, then laquer the whole lot.

I guess what I'm asking for is feedback on using regular acrylic paint from Halfords for this job. Will it blister, decolour and peel or be ok for years to come? As said, some here have reported good results, I'm just looking for reassurance, as I only want to do the job once.

I used Halfords ordinary rattle cans on my Chim using standard black followed by clear coat. Also used a bright yellow and clear coat on the TVR engine in my SD1. The clear coat does protect the finish and even with a Powers turbo in the Chim, no problems with the paint finish. wink

I had the rocker covers on my Cerbera painted at a paint shop to match the car . No problems and it gets hot under there.

PS. That’s a cracking looking/sounding SD1 you have there Iain, described in your profile. Always fancied them, never owned one. Enjoy!
