David Hendry or Henley Heritage
Discussion
I have had some experience of David Hendry - to be honest the are very helpful but their 2nd hand cars are very expensive compared to say newtown motors or brooklands. They were very friendly but i got the impression that they were only intersted in me if i was buying a more expensive car than what i was looking at. But that my only niggle. I gess both dealers u mention are bound to be pricey due to their location. hoep this helps.

quote:cannot see how he managed to spend 50K on a Griffith, even if he spec'ed it with gold plated knobs, 41-42k is about top whack. Incidentally I live within 8 miles of Henley and bought my Griffith (a tad under 40k with metallic paint, CD stacker, full leather, gold badges etc... ) from Portfield (no longer a TVR dealer) however have you tried Fernhurst? Rich...
I know a guy who got a brand new Griff 500 from Henley Heritage. etc....He sold it for about 25k a year later (originally nearer 50k) and bought a Porsche.
I've bought my last Griff 500 from Hawthorns, and the customer service is good. My only real problem was a stuck passenger seatbelt,sorted under warranty no fuss.
In fact the Griff has has less issues with the car and the dealer, than my recent experiences with my wifes newer 406 V6 coupe, and my new company VW passat.
Also offered me v good terms on trade in last week 24K, for my 98 S Griff 500 dark blue (9,000 miles). Obviously some good will and would like to keep the customer and the car is v saleable, (1 ownere, full hawthorns history, very good condition)
I know I wish I was back in the days when I sold my last griff 4.3, and only suffered 5 grand depreciation in 5 years, but the market has changed.

That 5 grand depreciation in 5 years , was trade in, for my current griff 500. So find a delar you like and build up a long term customer relationship (and look after your car) it will pay off.
I am tempted to get one off the last 100 griffs(I'll wait to I see the tamora, and drive it, and TVR have built them for a couple of years)
but.... too may other demands on my cash at the moment.
Fernhurst also seems to be well liked.

Are you comparing like for like when you say one dealer is expensive.
Take a look at how well they preapre the cars.
You might find the expensive dealer has put brand new tyres on it, resprayed the nose to remove stonechips, and a number of other detail things in the car preparation.
I know some TVR dealers do/don't prepare the cars to the same standard.
Thus making the 'expensive' car much better value
Actually that applies to the PDI as well.
Some dealers might spend 2-3 days sorting out factory foibles, which another dealer sends straight out.
Looking back at the postings on issues people took back to the dealer, I'm guessing that Hawthorns probably sorted them out for me, before I got hold of the car.

My Chim 450 came from HH, and the works before I picked it up :
* New tyres
* 12 service rather than the 6k
* Stone chips resrayed on the front (cracking job, although its done externally by another co.)
They were by far the cheapest also. My 98R Chim 450 cost me a shade under 20K, with 12K on the clock. I looked at a car in TMS, it was a 4l with 24K on the clock and a 96P, same price!!
Same interior spec (ie half hide, no aircon or ps)
HH seemed very intersted in my initial purchase (obviously) but were informative and not at all pushy. I had done my homework so I new a reasonable amount of info (specs, common flaws etc). In fact I was originally after a Cerbera 4.2. But budget-wise I was better of going for a newer Chim rather than an old Cerbera 4.2. They helped me make the decision and I'm grateful (quite good as the Cerbera was 5K more, so they lost out on that extra)
It went in last week for a few minor glitches:
* Driver door window slow - worn out
* Interior light not working
* Classic stepper motor problem.
All sorted out under some kind of warranty (the Sprint thing I think, since the car is 3 yrs old)
I would definitely recommend them, although an old work college got the arse with then and now uses TMS. Who knows!!

I had a salesperson from HH walk away from me 3 times at a motorshow about 3 1/2 years ago(was interested in a new Griff or Chim).Anyway giving them the benefit of the doubt I went back there for some parts for my S and was greeted with "oh we aren't expecting you, you will have to wait until we are ready" (rather abruptly)I was only in there to pay them!.A year or so later I was there for a job interview and basically got spoken down to and never got a reply from them (at a time when I needed to know where I stood job wise as my dept was closing).More recently some good freinds of mine took their Chimaera for a service and was told that half the car needed replacing (it's only done 25K and is pampered daily!) and was given a bill for over £2K (didn't know a 4.0 V8 held 7 litres of oil?!!!!), then more recently (they take it to them because they are the closest main dealer and want to keep the service book up) they had a new UJ (didn't look new to me but thats something else!) fitted and the car was returned with the horn not working and a knocking coming through the steering which turned out to be the steering column had not been re-fitted correctly and HH will not admit to this even though they were the ones that diagnosed the problem after they had undertaken the work, they now want close to £500 to fix their cock up but say they might be able to get a S/H unit (like the UJ?).There are other stories that I could mention but I have gone on long enough!
Cheers
Lee
P.S didn't they used to be a Volvo dealership?
