Me and a friend are going to knock up a copy of the Griff/Chim polished alloy roof struts/stays.

Was wondering whether anyone else would be interested in a pair if they come out well, going to try and get them as close to original as possible.

We think with time, materials and tooling they would be about £200 which I think is less than originals?

Just wondering if the idea has any milage

Thoughts?

Totally agree. Going to make some mock up's to check fitting and then go for the end result. Will post some pictures as we go.

when you say polished...... are you meaning giving a polished finish that doesn't need polishing.... or a finish that needs constant polishing.... if it's the second I can't see any improvement over what I all ready have in the car

I don't know if it's the same on the Wedges, but on Tamora's and S's these struts 'pinch' the rear window, leading to damage and eventually holes. If you are going to the expense of getting something tooled then why not look at one which decouples in the middle or at one of the ends when it is folded down.

Then the rear pram section would sit lower and the stay wouldn't damage the window. You would save yourself the cost of a replacement window every few years, so man maths says that it would be cheaper to change to a better looking item. smile

It can't be beyond the wit of man to come up with something. I did ask the Cambria Cirrus Surrey Top people about this and they had a design which didn't pinch the window which they had tried out on a Chimaera I believe. From what they described it didn't decouple but had some other mechanism.

Price mentioned wasn't a million miles away from your £200. But that was for a 1 off, probably a lot cheaper by the dozen?

Stuff got in the way for me so I have never followed it up.
