Hi, me and my wife are off to Europe for 2 weeks in September. This is our first trip and i'm wondering what spares and tools to take. It will be serviced next week inc all belts etc and the throttle cable was recently replaced. Any help , ideas would be nice. Cheers

When I go abroad, I only take the small items which wouldn't be easily available, and which could potentially leave you stranded. Tyre repair foam, Bulbs, fuses, 80 & 100 amp fuse inserts, relays, some spare wire and connectors, some insulation tape, zip-ties and a spare throttle cable (even if you have just had a replacement), along with a basic set of screwdrivers, sockets and spanners.

If something big goes, you're just not going to be able to fix it by the roadside so make sure you have European recovery thumbup

Oh, and enjoy the trip thumbup

DOT 4 fluid, just in case you get a clutch cylinder leak, you would still be able to cover a few hundred miles by topping up.

Never needed any of this lot on our S Club Eurotours . smile
But it's a comfort to know it's there if we need it.

ColinRedGriff's list above is quite a comprehensive checklist, but I would recommend carrying a set of jump leads in addition.

And if you're packing all the electrical gubbins, a small reel or two of electrical cable might come in handy to give you something to crimp the terminal ends onto.

Where are you heading for?

We're off to SW France for a week heading through the tunnel on the 3rd - hoping for better weather than we have here at the moment

Hoping to pick my car up from Como on the 10th before driving down to just past Rimini, going the long way via Genoa and Florence then up and over the Apennines.
If you're around any of those areas drop me a line thumbup

Oh and my breakdown kit will be the free European breakdown cover Classicline were nice enough to include in my policy this year.

Unless that's got the same power plant as the Back to the Future car the 'radiation keep out' sign seems rather excessive.

You also need to cut down on the number of spanners.

This little lot goes everywhere with me, not just mainland Europe wink

Yes, you can carry credit cards and AA membership but I prefer the option of maybe being able to do a quick fix myself and be on my way rather waiting around for a recovery truck!

You need to add one of these always keen to save space and embrace modern technology this bit of kit has a battery that fully charged can be used to charge your lap top phone etc is a led torch but best of all will start a car up to 45times on one charge I have seen it start a V8 Mustang so throw out the jump leads and get one of these you can re charge from your lighter socket and holds its change for ages
