Just to say Lidl are doing their very good little battery chargers this Thursday. These are not simple chargers, but full battery conditioners that cycle the applied voltage so you get a full charge without loss of electrolyte and gassing, and can be left on permanently so ideal for a winter lay up. The only down side is you need to reactivate the correct charging mode if the mains power goes off, but at the cost of £14 they are a bit of a bargain compared to ones costing 4 time as much that do the same thing.

Are these ok to be left on all the time? I'm worried about them causing a fire if they short out or something goes wrong internally to the battery.

They are designed to be left on all the time, plus they have thermal shutdown if they get hot. They dont generate any significant heat either as they are switch mode type power supplies and dont need the wacking great big transformers of the older types of chargers. I think you will be safe on this one.

Thanks, Just read up on them a bit more, seems they have quite a bit of protection, so I'll get one later.
Cheers
