I'm going to check out some cars at The TVR Centre. Have read Steve Heaths book- including the bit about getting an AA inspection. He didn't make it very clear if he was suggesting this for a dealer or just private. I think I would feel like a bit of a Knob asking to arrange one of these as they are such a big dealer and might (justifiably?) say something like the above (maybe with a different accent). I intend of course to give any car Steves recommended once over myself. What do you think?

The AA are an expensive option when it comes to TVRs. I had an inspection done by them when I bought my S4. Although it gave me peace of mind that nothing terminal was wrong with the car, they didn't have the specialist knowledge to justify the exhorbitant price. Best bet is to ring one of the independent specialists and get them to go up and take a look. It'll be cheaper and they'll know exactly what to look for. No respectable dealer should object to an independent inspection.

Found David Gerald to be quite good. Also the chance of the drive there to see the car in use, if you live near to them. PS don't know where the TVR centre is might be too far Edited by jmorgan on Friday 27th April 23:59

Not certain about this, but I think for a small fee, Fernies will do a pre-sale check on private TVRs - I guess there is a good chance you'll take up servicing with them.

AA Inspection, not worth the paper there written on.... Had a bet that they wouldn't notice a Griff with Sports exhaust and No Cats, they didn't of course. The only point they raised was how the thickness if the paint varied around the car..accident damage don't you know.. I informed them the thickness depended on how awake the sprayer was at the time....

Bit of a sad reflection on TVR main dealers if an independent check is advisable when buying from them.
