Has any one used masonry paint on their garage floor? I’ve got 10lts spare so if it will stand the abrasion I’ll use that instead of forking out for “special paint”. Any ideas?

Yes it does not work , it comes off very easily unfortunately.
Did a trail patch on clean dry floor not a good plan.

Not sure it would last long. Why not use it on the walls...if they need doing!

I bought this stuff and a year later it still looks good.

When we recarpeted our house we found a lot of lino. The installers left a bit behind and despite me moaning at them to come and pick it up, they did not. I put it down in the garage. It was great. However, using axles stands and jacks cut into it. If you are not going to work on your car in the garage then lino is excellent.

I then used 8 x 4 sheets of old, non-waterproof plywood and this proved excellent. Nice and warm to lie down on. We had heavy rain in the autumn and leaves blocked the drain and the garage flooded. The result is obvious.

I'm about to have a new garage built and I'm going for a ply floor. The fact that it is 'warmer' that concrete lessens condensation.

I met a Chimaera owner who had carpet in his garage. It was very short nylon type but he said it was superb. Never tried it myself.

If its a concrete floor before you put any paint on it you'll need to acid etch it to seal it. If you dont do this the floor "dusts up" and the paint lifts.

Missing this is what leads to most people who put paint down on a garage floor saying its useless.

I used the Screwfix stuff. Needs a long time to cure properly, but pretty good.

I have tiles on my floor, been down for years. Built 3 cars in there and they look as good now as when they went down. Anything you spill can just be wiped up with no mess. Wouldnt have anything else.

No they are quite a thick 6"x6" terracotta floor tile. Ceramic probably would be a bit brittle.

Even with the sealant going down before the paint I've seen the paint ;lifting before too long. For a single garage it's £100 minimum for sealant and paint, so I opted to spend a little more and put down tiles.

I've mentioned it before, but Dynotile sometimes have seconds that are half price - mine had been on demo in a showroom and were basically new! THey have the advantage of being warm & comfortable to work on, as well as absorbing noise, etc.

Which may be true if you want a 'showroom' finish otherwise it's nonsense. I painted mine with Wicks garage floor paint 15 years ago, just swept it out and put it on with an old broom, looked fine, stayed reasonably clean. I did it again over Easter this year to freshen it up. Yes it will wear away where the wheels constantly park up but other than that it's OK for 99% of people.

Not a problem on the tiles. Only issue I did have was when driving up ramps in my garage they did dig in and chew up the tiles a little bit, but barely noticeable and still works fine.

Painted mine, then had condensation problems in the cold/damp winter days. Bare concrete was better in this respect, as it didn't condense.

I've got hundreds of commercial tiles stacked in my store. They wouldn't stand the activity of 3 sons and me, the garage is rarely outof use laugh.
