anyone see this on TV, what a giggle, first Charles shells out 65 grand on a porker, sets up his radar detector then drives around London swearing at all the traffic queues. Next plod drives into the back of a car on the way to an RTA mumbling that he was in a hurry to prevent any further accidents.....class

Problem is that it is people like 'charles' that give most of the people that frequent this web site a bad name. When this sort of thing is shown on TV the general public sees it as reinforcing their opinions that everybody that drives a flash/fast car is a bit of a nob. His attitude that he is never going to get caught by 'pc-plod' especially as he has a radar detector (oooh!), that he generally does '90 and sometimes 100', that using his mobile when driving at speed is fine and antagonising other motorists is just a 'laugh' do nothing to promote the sports car cause. Most of us would like to see speed limits raised, less gatsos, acceptance of driving to a speed suitable to the conditions and abilities of the driver and less persecution of the motorist in general. It aint going to happen whilst there are people like this in the public eye. Ten minutes on TV can destroy years of promoting the cause and thousands of signatures on petitions. Shame that none of the real enthusiasts ever appear on prime time.

Doesn't make good TV, I'm sfraid. Someone saying how they enjoy their car safely and responsibly and reserve limit driving to the track just wouldn't entertain the masses. Couldn't agree more that irresponsible idiots spoil things for the rest of us....but I didn't see the programme - was this guy that much of an pr**k?

Yup, biggest p**ck I've ever seen or heard on TV(and that is NOT because he drives a Porsche) Loved the police car prang, luckily no-one was hurt (I didn't feel the police driver was slamming his brakes on mind..)

That WILL set the cause of genuine performance car drivers back about 1000 years! JonH

Nothing can set back motoring as much as a show on Bravo called Carnage.. It is purely Max poweresqe people on there.. Some guy has got Lights in the passenger footwell, cause if a 'bird `as got nice legs, you want to show them off' The other night they 'test drove' a tuscan, which is apparently 'quite fast' I kid you not, but it did lose points cause the woman test driving it had her hair billowing around........ Has anyone else seen this show that makes Driven look good ?!?

I obviuosly saw the same episode of Carnage. Loved the bit where the thick bint driving the Tuscan marked it down because of the large thing between the seats stopping you putting your arm around the passenger

Max Power readers mentioned on this website! shock ! horror ! The blacked out lights, the de-badged cretin mobiles, the reversed base ball cap, the ear rings ! the non-existent driving 'skills'! Excuse me, I think I'm going to be sick... Bring back the Porsche driving snob, all is forgiven (well some of it).

Would it be too childish to find out where these 'Max Power' lads hang out of an evening and arrange a ride by with a whole bunch of TVR's? Yea guess it would, but worth a laugh

Nah. Most of us never upgraded the stereo very far, 'cos we've got those rumbling drainpipes out the back: The only way to win respect with the yoof is if you've got a hauge sub in the boot and bleeding ears to show for it. That, and the fact that I can't find a really tacky, badly painted, and completely unsuitable boot spoiler to put on the back of my car. <bitch> Oooh, I wonder if the one from the Tuscan S would fit? </bitch> Edited by Marshy on Friday 27th April 11:09

Have to disagree. I went to a couple of meets over at Thurrock when they used to do them (back in my fiesta RS turbo days, years ago). Then, one day on the way home (when I had the Lotus) I pulled into Rykas at box hill at about 01:30 (thought the burger bar would be open for a coffee, we were knackered!). There they were, XR2, RS, GTE you name the hot hatch there they were trying to donut their FWD cars hehehe!! I pulled up, saw rykas shut, saw the guys, pulled a quick 720 to face the way out and drove off with hooters beeping and lights flashing in the background. They love it if you turn up in a flash motor and then give it a bit of boisterous behaviour - remember they are the future sportscar drivers, they're on the path to growing up like we all have to. By the time they are owning TVRs they'll be laughing at bodykitted golfs and 20" alloys on puntos. The one's I laugh at are the council estate fellas that have a Mk.2 or3 granadas with badly applied black windows and a boomerang aerial on the boot. 3 spoke alloys, neon car phone aerials and those rubbing strips on the corner of the bumpers.

Yer right on there Dubbsy, they are only kids and as my lad is one of them I'd sooner he waste his time on this than get into booze or drugs Some of these motors are seriously well done and fast so be prepared for egg on face

That's a good point - about some of them being fast and well done. I was cuising around Milton Keynes just before crimble and had a souped up Nova come wazzing up behind. Natural instinct, of course, was to floor it. The flaw in my plan was that he just about kept up. Now the chimp wasn't in the best of tune at the time, but jesus!

The thing I fail to understand is that you get Max Power and C and CC readers who spend a ton of money on their Novas, Escorts, Clios etc, etc (in some cases tens of thousands) and end up with a car which is probably pretty quick in a straight line but reasonably unusable as teh engien is stressed to death the car has been lowered to the floor etc, etc, etc. I'm all for personalisation but the money they spend would buy a good Scooby (ha you though I was going to say TVR then), TVR, even Cerbie, Esprit etc, etc. All of which were designed to be performance cars and which with the development they have had (by the customer or otherwise) are going to be a far better bet. So why do they do it eh ??

I remember reading an article in some Max Power type mag, (I was just checking the adverts for stainless steel exhausts, honest!!) and there was a comparison of sports cars and kitted, tuned shopping trolleys. Their owners loved ,em, but as one guy said, he'd much rather buy the real thing than mess about with all the dodgy crap on his own car! It's just that most of them can't afford TVR's, Scooby's etc., but want the thrills that we take for granted. Watch out, the next wave will be Corrado VR6's, all tuned up. Mmmm, that was a nice car....

As well as my S2 I have a modified mini, I have spent a fair amount making this car quick, there is something about a modified car, its great to have a normal car which can put the bigger cars to shame, I have friends who have extremely modified cars, ok they’re not everyday cars but very fun. How many people on this site want to modify their proper sports cars to get that little bit more? That’s what its all about.
