Meet the brand-new Tuscan race car...
...Got a TVR? Pop along to Str8six on 19th May for an open day with a twist
Str8six and its founder Jason Clegg are an example of just that never-say-die spirit. When Bristol Avenue closed its doors in 2006, Clegg - a former TVR employee - bought 11 chassis, two Sagarises and nine Tuscans. Since then he's been busy building them into 'as-new' cars, complete with brand-new registrations.
You can read all about what they're like in this week's Autocar, but what's really intriguing is the new Tuscan-based Racer that Clegg has built, and which will form the inspiration of the trackday-spec Tuscan chassis that the final three chassis will become.
You can do more than just look at these pics, though, as Str8six is holding a PH-sponsored open day at its HQ in Lewknor, Oxfordshire. This is for TVR owners and their passengers only (and potential TVR owners by appointment) and Str8six would like to keep numbers to a manageable 120.
There should be plenty of interesting TVRs to see, including Typhons, T350 racers, Tuscan Challenge race cars, the famous Graham Varley Sagaris, a race Sagaris and Str8six's own supercharged Sagaris. And you will be able to inspect the new Str8six Tuscan racer (900kg and 460hp ) up close.
If you would like to attend the event, Please add your car type, number of occupants, and any remarks to the Calendar list here, much as we do with a Sunday Service. There will be a BBQ and non-alcoholic refreshments, too, though if that's not enough and you aren't bringing your own Champagne and picnic hamper, The Leathern Bottle pub in Lewknor will be happy to see you (they tell us)!
Str8six and PH are also are in negotiation with the weather gods for clear skies - or at least ones free from water...
Oh, and one little piece of housekeeping: Str8six (and ourselves) don't mind how fast you travel to and from home, but Lewknor's little roads are not TVR-friendly. So there will be a prize for the TVR that behaves in the quietest and most responsible manner as it arrives and departs!
You can keep abreast of what's happening on the day by looking at the Str8six Facebook page, and you can get the address from Str8six's website.
Shame about the rear diffuser. It needs to be in matt black so it does not stick out like a bad case of hemeroides (or whatever it is called in the UK).
It is unbelievable how broad the UK car industry is. Try finding someone knowledgable enough in Belgium to change spark plugs...'Oh no sir, we recommend a new car, no point in changing the plugs. A new car will be cheaper'.
Good luck at the races!
