HOY 11K 4wd TVR se restoration project
Discussion
We have recently started too restore our 4wd se that has been collecting dust in the workshop for far too many years...
The car is a 1971 LWB se, 1 of only 3 that remained in the UK when the other 21 LWB se models went over to the states. It was built by Liam Churchill when he owned Barnet Motor Company, he fitted the car with a Ford Boss 302ci engine mated to the Ferguson 4wd system as used in the Jenson Interceptors. A couple of other unique features on this car are the Maxeret vacuum ABS system, magnesium knock on wheels and the door catches and electric windows from an Elan +2.
The car was painted in a dark blue and silver combination and featured in Peter Wheelers book titled "The history of TVR" with its original number plate HOY 11K.
If anybody has anymore information and/or pictures of the car then please contact me.
I will try and keep this thread updated with photographs of the car during it's rebuild.

Can we have a pic for starters please?
I don't recognise the book you mention
Hmmmm I will be honest and admit I may have got the title of the book wrong, been a long day and you have put doubts in my head now.I don't recognise the book you mention

I will find our copy of said article and confirm title and author tomorrow. Might even post a scanned copy with the original picture of the car if I can get it into the scanner.
I very rarely post In the TVR forms these days, but I am so happy to hear this car is still in existence. My father used to deal with Liam at Barnet for his Vixens and Grantura and always mentioned this car and we have always wondered what happened to it. It's great to hear that it's still around. Not sure if he can shed any technical light on it, but it's great to hear of something back in the day still being around now.
I really look forward to hearing of its restoration and when it's done I know my f would love to see it again. Good luck.

As long as your father doesn't mind the wait I'm sure it will be no problem for him too come and have a look once she is back to her former glory. We have our work cut out at the moment piecing the car back together as there are no known blueprints or design drawings.I really look forward to hearing of its restoration and when it's done I know my f would love to see it again. Good luck.
No problem In waiting and thanks for the offer. If you were to turn up with 62 MBJ, his fabourite of his 2 Vixens and a single Grantura mk2a ( he wrote one off and Barnet told him he could have it repaired or have another one, so another one it was) then you would make my year.
It's also the car that pulled my mother at the time and as my Griffith is not in need of work, I'm finishing my Caterham track car project, then a full resto on a family heirloom I can't find anywhere would be perfect

I last saw that car at Coupés, in Cricklewood, about 28 years ago....
Has Filby changed his name?
By the way, Johno, it's your turn to buy lunch

You in Paris anytime soon? sorry, can't make Zolder again also as I'm at an event in the UK and really wanted to bring Vicki for her first visit, perhaps next year. . ."
I have now got a couple photographs of the car but I don't seem to able to upload them
I also have a digital copy of said article about this car and quite rightly pointed out by DavidY it was indeed in Peter Filby's book "Success against the odds"
I will endeavour too sort these technical issues out but it may result in certain pieces of computer equipment being sent for a flying lesson...

Not only a LWB, but a wide bodied car. (So one of the later MAL chassis series?)(There are a few more 1967-68 Long Wheel Base, older "Vixen" style, cars in the UK, one of these is in the current (June) Classic Cars magazine.
If you look very closely you can see the shell stretch has been lost in the front doors and scuttle..The body as such still looks in quite good proportions. its a good project to bring this car back.
Because of the stretch I assume the chassis will be a bit of a one off and will need re-making. If you are struggling with someone who can do the chassis to a good original std I can supply you with a name If Adrian Venn hasn't already passed that name on to you.
Is the clear perspex sun roof still in situ or is there still evidence of it? Or am I getting mixed up with another widebody?
There were alledgedly 7 widebodys built in total.
and then the "Bitza" that you have there as a true one off
From memory Liam churchill used to be heavily involved in Drag racing and funny cars in the mid seventies..is he still around?
N.
Mods..It might be an idea to move this into the Classics section..Probaly a lot of people haven't stumbled on this thread?

Thank you for your reply and offer but we have the original chassis at the workshop, it's in outstanding condition as we kept the car dry stored since those photographs were taken. When we sent the chassis to the powder coaters we were amazed ourselves that it needed no repairs before hand. The chassis itself is completely unique as it's not only longer and wider than standard but also has to house the transfer box, front differential etc. Because of the stretch I assume the chassis will be a bit of a one off and will need re-making. If you are struggling with someone who can do the chassis to a good original std I can supply you with a name If Adrian Venn hasn't already passed that name on to you.

It's now back in the workshop with a dummy setup of the rear suspension and brakes hanging on while we try to piece together the 4wd system. We still have the original diffs, diff carriers and front and rear propshafts which makes life a lot easier...
Will take more photos of her current state over the weekend but until then I think it's going to be less of this and more of this
Cheers
HOY 11K. Just a few notes ref the spec.,
The FWD System was a lightweight one developed by Fergusons for the Mustang, A new adaptor had to be fabricated for the RHD TVR . The front hubs, uprights, driveshafts, diff, and front and rear propshafts were all special .The brakes were Dunlop Maxerat anti lock system. the first engine was a stock 302 ford but that was soon changed for a BOSS 302. Transmission was Ford Auto. Wheels were Minilite K/O. The Chassis was fabricated from the diff cage forward It was
longer .The Bonnet was moved forward and the scuttle top lengthened to fill the gap,no other Body Mods were made. The outer door buttons were Lancia Fulvia Boot buttons ,inner handles XJ6 ,the electric windows and Interior trim were Custom.
Thats all I can recall for now. Liam.
