Selecting car park spaces...

Had to laugh tonight. Parked in Cambridge Park St. car park, downstairs within view of one of their cameras. The place was empty, so I had a choice of many spaces. Came back after a meal, to find a green Cerbie parked right next to me... lots of empty spaces all around again. Had to smile. So... anyone care to admit to picking spaces on the basis of what you're parked next to? [Note: this is a lighthearted thread, so anyone venturing forth with the word "sad" will be roundly verbally abused]

Generally I'll try to park next to a wall/piller in multi stories, half the chance of someone bash your door with theirs. But I have to admit, I never park next 4x4s people carriers or Volvos, for the same reasons above.

I never park next to anything with kiddy seats or trilbys(sp) on the parcel shelf, or anything that it more than 25% primer, or 4x4s, or nissan micras, or people carriers, or......... Hang on no wonder I can never find a space!!!!

Ok, well, I know I`m sad, so I like to park next to 'sports cars' i.e Mazda MX5s etc.. to show `em what a real one looks like... ( Apart from that, I also avoid 4*4s and MPVs, which is easy, cause they usually take up 2 1/2 spaces anyway )

Yup. Its a strange phenomenon that one. No other cars for miles around and they park right next to you. Doesn't matter what you drive either. My current (not for much longer) sensible car is a Pug 406 Coupe SE. Loooong doors. When they park that close you haven't a chance of getting in or out. B******s.

If it's during the week I avoid the obvious 4x4, MPV brigade as mentioned above but I do look out for the parking permit in the windscreen, this means they won't be gone before you and you can be sure no door will open onto you.

I also avoid parking under trees to stop bird poo messing up the paintwork.

After having various *£4%&*s scratch the nosecone of my previous Griff by reversing into it, I always try and park the Tuscan 'nose-out' at the end of a row of cars

Marshy, I think you've made a good point here, we've all,h(come on, admit it!) arrived at a car park and judged who we park next to. I refuse to believe anyone who visits this site who owns a nice (english)sports car who would not of done the same

Doesn't seem to matter though does it? Where I live the Rover drivers obviously use the 'reverse till you hit something' school of parking -- judging by the scuff marks on the nose of my Chimaera. Got the Chips Away man coming tomorrow...

I can understand this, I'm always getting called 'anal' by my wife for deliberating over where to park the car, apart from 4x4's and stuff I always avoid anything which is tatty as I assume they won't care if they hit my car :-). As for Cambridge traffic well that would deserve a topic all of it's own (fume..gets pushbike). How are the chips Manek?

Slight change of topic here. Had my Chimaera just over a week and noticed it much easier getting into traffic queues from side roads, presumably the polite people just like to hear the burble of the V8? As for parking, guess we are all going to be that bit extra careful, but surely parking next to other 'lesser mortals' is all part of the fun!!

damn right. I also look at the reflection of my chim in shop windows too. & while i'm, off topic. The newsagents by me ( big shop window ) Has some weird novelty parrot in the window. Its one of those mad things that squawks & flaps when it hears something. Every time i drive past it i give it a rev or two. It goes mad. I bloody love it. Spotted a nice silver Cerbie in a multi-story in Stratford yesterday. If I hadn't already parked my Griff I would've parked next to it to keep it company. Same colour too.

Two TVRs parked in Stratford and I missed them! Don't see many around here, but wherever I am if I saw a TVR I would park next to it. Think i've seen the silver Cerbie, but not your Griff, GasBlaster. When I first got my Chimaera, I was so anxious to protect it I would park across two spaces - still do that sometimes in those car parks where they've been ultra stingy and made the spaces only wide enough for a Micra.

Parking accross two spaces!! Be careful you don't get 'done'. Most car parks and I quote (well from memory) ...'any vehicle not parked within a designated space is liable to clamping/towing and a substantial fine....' It also pi##es the rest of us off when there are no spaces left!
