TVR in a Garage?

From being a long-time lurker on PH generally, this is my first post in the TVR section as I'm looking to get into either Griff or Chim ownership assuming my 911 sale goes well.
I wont reveal preferences yet, but as both cars are a similar size, can any of the informed on here advise what is the minimum amount of gaarge-width I need assuming I want to actually get out of the car afterwards.
The 911 is tiny and fits into a 1950's built garage. Sadly, I have real concern that my TVR ownership desire might be short-lived.
Help much appreciated.

I believe the Chim's width is quoted as 1865 mm including mirrors. By current standards it's a tiny, tiny car. You don't need to open the door very wide to get in and out either, especially if you don't put the roof up.

Au contraire, the doors themselves are very thick, so you will need at least 600mm to the side to get out unless
a) the roof is off, or
b) you are Kate Moss

What is the width of your garage? Mine is 2450mm wide and I have no problems at all as long as I tuck it well to the left. Doubt I'd be able to get out of a cerby though with their doors being so long.

There you go, 1865 + 600 = 2465, give or take a few cm. If your garage is at least 8ft wide, as even the meanest are, you should be OK provided you can get it right across to the left.

If you go for a Griff you'll easily get it in the space a 911 takes, here's a picture of a Griff stored for the winter.

My garage is 2440mm wide (inner wall to inner wall) and I can easily get out if I park chim to the left of the garage - no need to pull in wing mirrors either.

Just put carpet on the wall where the drivers door opens too and you have a safety net when you get out.

I'm no Kate Moss either... more Sophie Dahl!

I think I have my answer.
Assuming the tape measure bears this out, the search is still on.
What do you reckon to the Griff at TVR Ecosse in the classifieds?
Other than being a bit pricey, it looks good!

On this very subject, I'm having my house renovated at the moment so have moved to some temporary accomodation. The garage is very narrow but in advance of picking the car up yesterday I'd measured it all out OK. So last night:

1) Reverse car into garage
2) Realise I can't open the door wide enough to get out without touching the wall
3) Could reverse in again to get some more clearance but have a 'brainwave': put window down and climb out of the window dukes of hazzard style!
4) Climb out of car and then absentmindedly set the car alarm
5) Watch window go up and realise I've just closed off my route back into the car.

I will now have to unlock boot, remove the rear screen and post one of my kids into the car to put the window back down...

Darwin award for me I reckon.

I have had a good look at the Griff at tvr Ecosse and i can tell you that it is the best sounding RV8 i have ever heard. The engine bay and chassis are like new also. A lot of time and money spent by the looks of it.

I have a 1935 garage, when I had the chim I put carpet, hung from a piece of roofing batten, along the left wall (hung from the batten so I could see when it moved if I got too close)I also pu carpet directly on the right wall to protect the door edge as it was a bit of a squeeze getting in and out.

That's good news, I just need to find a way of overcoming the 360 miles between solihull & Dundee for a test drive.
I'll give Barry a call for a chat. - Still a bit pricey for a 'P' reg IMO

I dont think its that pricey when you look at the way griff prices are going at present.

They're actually pretty small cars.

If you want to search I asked the same question a few years ago when I bought my S3. That lived in a small council garage and it turned out someone else on here had housed his Griff in exactly the same garage a few years beforehand. Sure I listed the dimensions...

Failing that, where are you? Mine's out of action currently, but I'm sure there's a local PHer who could bring theirs over for a trial fit and probably impart some wisdom about them at the same time.
