Two Days In The Life Of A TVR Owner
Discussion
Ok, so i picked the 350 up from str8six on thursday after switching back to the loud TVR Power exhaust from the blue flame, apart from sounding much better the car seems to prefer it as well and is pulling like a train with pops and bangs galore, they also found that the aftermarket engine mounts had completely failed with the silicone melting and ripping[i'll post a pic], they must of been on there way out when i bought the car as the nasty vibration i'd been getting has completely gone, and i'm now loving the car more than ever! On a seperate note there was a lovely typhoon at jason's which best of all looks like it gets some proper use.
On to the Griff, as some of you know the car is nearly finished now and just needed to complete a Journey home to Blackpool to be painted and trimmed! The plan was to leave early from Surrey drive to Gaz in essex to collect some springs, then to sheffied and RT Raceing and finally onto Surface and design in Blackpool, the journey started well with me getting to grips with the extra couple of hundred horses and just getting used to what felt like a totally new car, the sun was shinning and it was a good TVR day! Apart from an air block problem we fixed in Sheffield the car was running great and on leaving RT i asked what would be the best road to Blackpool? The guys said we could take the motorway or go over death pass or some scary sounding rd, so we opted for the main rd as we were late and left, now i never really use t
t nav but on this occasion my friend had bought his and seeing as i'm not local i switched of my brain and started to follow the nav, 10 mins in the main rd ahead is closed with no diversion signs in place, so along with several others we found ourselves heading over the pennine pass rd! No problems there then except that within 15mins there was about 3inches of snow dropped!! at this junction i should mention the Griff is on brand new 888's and i've just spent a small fortune on it. At this point we stopped going forward and started sliding backwards, if that was not bad enough a Land Rover fully loaded kids bikes the lot loses control coming down the hill and starts sliding across the rd towards us, i thought about getting out and trying to deflect the contact with my body but thankfully common sense kicked in plus she managed to miss us[inches]. To cut an already long story short we were stuck up there for five hours with even the AA failing to reach us, i eventually crawled down the mountain at 6mph after being towed from the small rd where we got stuck reaching Blackpool at 10pm[no damage], by far the most challenging stressfull drive i've ever had, if you thought 888's and standing water was bad you should try them on snow and ice!! i must of lost the car 30 times
Love her even more now!

Not a good way to find out how well your car performs in the snow. Glad you got to your destination safely.Reminds me when we went down to Goodwood for a breakfast club meet a few years ago. Got to the circuit OK but then the snow started and within minutes all the cars were covered in a few inches of snow. Decided to go home up the A286 but only got halfway back before we got stuck going uphill. The show was several inches thick and hadn't been gritted. Police cars were stuck and there was some poor guy in a racing Cobra really struggling with controlling the power.
In the end we managed to turn around and very carefully drive back down and come home along the A27/M3 which was a bit clearer. Definitely needed clean underwear and a sharp drink when we got home about 5 hours later.

Death Pass, good one, probably the Snake Pass or Winnits Pass or the Woodhead Pass, all of which are a nightmare in snow, next time go M1, M62, M61, M6, M55, but i guess you know that now - great photo by the way!
Thats it Snake pass, but i think we were stuck on Woodhead as i could see the resevoir!Colin RedGriff said:

Christian, see you in a few weeks when the old girls back home!
That was pretty hard to read but got there in the end using a ruler on the screen
Glad you got home in one piece, you and the car that is. I've only driven my T350 in the snow once! To say I was s
t*ing myself would be an understatement! My clutch foot was shaking like a gooden trying to ease the power down.

My clutch foot was shaking like a gooden trying to ease the power down.Reminds me I came home from Dartfod in the yellow Cerb 4.5 in about 2002 and it started snowing on the M25 after two hours cat napping in the car they got the jack knifed artic out of the way and at 1.00 AM ( just 6 hours late)got on teh lane home which has no curbsr or markers and put a wheel off in the fresh snow. Had to dig it out in the morning. Then 2005 in the Green Cerb 4.5 sudden snow and couldn't get up the hill to home. Mate with an Audi got me home to where ny Range Rover ( Yes I know!) was parked. Following day had to be in Rotherham so set off in a 17 year old Range Rover I'd never driven more than 30 miles. Went to fill it with fuel and the key snapped in the petrol locking cap! Borrowed a screwdriver from the garage, used it as a key, filled the car and got there and back, picked up the Cerb two days later

Winnits Pass indeed ! Klagnuts Pass or Dangleberries pass don;t have quite the same "ring" to them

Hmmmmm! winnets pass, i remember it well! I drove down that once in a fully loaded minibus and the brakes decided to give out, the change from an incredibly fast second gear to first was the most prayed about moment in my life! Talk about a crashbox.....
Engine braking can be useful!

Or in the snow...
I remember a convoy of us coming back from a peak forest meeting (to the
Rising Sun @ Bamford) down there, via Castelton.. pops and bangs galore.
TVR on 888's in snowy cold conditions. Must have been like Todd Carty on ice but not as funny.
I've tried using my Cerb in the snow before. Doesn't matter if the danglies are big and brave, even my pea brain told me it was a bad decision. And I've tried it more than once. Doh!...Doh!...Doh!
Glad to hear you got through it though.
