HELP - 4.3L Upgrade Feedback needed

I am considering upgrading my Tuscan S 4.0L to a 4.3L for improved torque and power. I would like to hear from fellow TVR enthusiasts who have taken this step and what their view of the upgraded engine is. How does it feel/ sound etc and is it worth it? Has anyone experienced problems or been disappointed?

There is a Speed Six forum with loads of threads in about this.

This thread gives a Wiki of upgrades and power in the real world.

Basically there are three ways of doing it: TVR Power, Str8-Six (offer the same kits, different ways of doing it, and different prices), and Racing Green.

There is a large amount of bad feeling between the different camps, which comes out on here. It's basically what you want to go for, and how much you want to spend.

I went from a 3.6l Tamora to a 4.3l and the difference is unreal engine feels bullet proof

was considering my options at the time as I had not had an engine failure but after over 40k on the clock compression was down on a couple of cylinders

I was looking at either keeping it standard or a 4.0l upgrade and I am very pleased that dom talked me into the 4.3 that was over two years ago and not looked back

Thanks, I think you have convinced me! Is the low down torque noticeably improved? Also does it sound the same as before?

i have a 4.3 in my sagaris, the torque is noticibly diffent, no need to keep droping down a gear the car pulls so much better,
Had mine done by Jason @ STR8 six but beleave Dom at power would do equily good job.

Also went from a 3.6 to 4.3 courtesy of Jason at Str8six. The engine has so much more torque from low rpm and is very smooth. I find it a bit louder than before. It also warms up quicker and ticks over easily even when very cold.

I have just had the 4.3 tvr power upgrade done on my tuscan2 3.6 and although im still breaking her in i can feel the diff in torque. I should be getting the first service done in a week or 2 so will let you know how it goes once i give it the beans. Cana wait!

Just thought i would give some feed back on my first impressions of the 4.3. All i can say is furkin hell what a Beast.

Take it steady out there Kev, it's addictive, and there's a fine line between 'F**k me that's quick!' and heading backwards into the scenery............. I span the Tam while I was still running her in and was very lucky not to bruise anything more than my pride. Good fun tho innit! :0)

Thanks for the advice Sam, ye i totaly agree its a case of learning to drive it all over again. I cant wait for summer when i can get it to the track and really see what it can do.
Have you had any problems with yours? how long you had it for?

Had it done in October, just waiting to put a few more miles before getting the final map done. Done a couple of half days on the track and it is fairly epic. Only problem is traction. Have just got some R1R's for it which I'm hoping will help.

Ye i think a new set of tyres will be next on the list. Let me know what your final numbers are after the map, it would be interesting to see what she is pushing out compared to mine.
