urgent request for help

Hi All,

Driving to work today after 2 miles i see steam coming out of the vents at the very front of the bonnet of my Tamora.

Stopped straight away nothing obvious to see.
However I could easily pull the hose which goes from the swirl pot/radiator assembly to the engine, at the engine.

I assume this is the cause of the steam?

Any ideas of cause?

How is it held on? jubilee clip?

Any ideas of a fix?

The easy check first is the coolant level when the system has cooled down, also if you're car has been in the rain last night, could it simply be rain water on the rad which is steaming when the rad gets hot?

Was my first thought, you know rolling off the bonnet. Hope it's this simple for the OP.

What they say above . If it was raining, or you had some water drops running off the bodywork onto the radiator, that just flashes off into vapour. Most noticable when you are stopped or in slow moving traffic.

Check your levels though.....

Scared the crap out of me the first time this happened, but when the radiator gets up to temperature (usually within a few minutes) you`ll start to notice steam evaporating from it.

Checking the water level is the only way to be sure that your not losing some (and check it several times over the next few runs, before starting the car)

That does not sound right. There should be a clip at each end holding it tight.
Note: There was torrential rain for hours last night, so it could be water lying within the engine bay getting boiled once the engine/exhaust up to temp, but get clips on those pipes anyway and check coolant levels asap.

i could easily pull the hose away fromn the engine with my hand, that surely cant be right? so a jubilee clip has perhaps popped off

i will check to see if there is standing water which is the cause also

If its popped off and the hose was still on then it'll be at the lowest point of the hose.

thank so much guys. PROBLEM SOLVED!!!

the hose i was on about was the breather pipe from engine to oil resevoir (doh!) slightly loose but not a problem

I ran the engine up to temp. no more steam, no leak, no drips, nothing.

So must have been as you rightly say rain water from last night's storms!!!

Man I lurve the TVR!

I have had this the last few days with the Mini cooper s on the inter cooler and rad with all this rain we have been having. Always better safe than sorry.
