Diagnostic required Essex area

Can anyone recommend somewhere reliable locally to diagnose an engine problem with my Chim 400. Obviously Castle is an option but is there a good independent with the right equipment.

i have always used mowatts in pound lane bowers gifford, which is near basildon 01268-726225. He is normally very busy though.

Is he familiar with Trev's? Obviously you think he is good enough but does he have the necessary equipment and have you used him often

You could try Phil Woods in Westcliff - he does TVR's (drives one actually). His website in body orientated but hw does everythign else aswell.

i use him for my 400se + he does a few other tivs, he also has a rolling road.
They dont have a courtesy car and dont wash your car but know what they are doing.

Phil Wood ? thought he was more of a body work man?

Think he does mechanical work aswell. Certainly, they were replacing the cams in a Chim last time I was there.

I replaced the coil and it seems to have cured my problem, although the weather hasn't been so hot this week, but hopefully i won't need Mowatts.....YET!!!!
But thanks for the info it's worth knowing there's someone reliable close by

Keep a spare one also. The coolent in the coils is oil and sometimes they leak due to the high temps in the car.

You might get an intermittemt miss on the engine, abit like fuel starvation, and this could be the coil.

This happend to me on Christmas day on the way to the outlaws, and I was 6 hours late for Xmas lunch .

If you take the HT lead out the coil and it is wet, then dump the coil and get a new one.

Hi Andy, only just back from euro-land... I had same/similar problems as you about 6 months back and it seemed to be a mixture of new coil & ignition module that cured mine 90% This was finally done by Dan at the then CDL (one of the Le Mans mechanics!). I've used both Mowatts and PH Woods but neither were able to fully cure this problem... pop round for a cuppa and we can swap notes!

OK so i now know it wasn't the coil, but at least i have a spare now, spent saturday afternoon on my mates old Krypton tune and diagnosed a fault on No 1 cylinder, cleaned plug and connections and also found poor connection on king lead so i'm not really sure which it was but it seems completely cured. Although it's still early days i am fairly confident a set of leads and plugs will do the job, i may try them flashy Magnecor jobbies. Thanks for everyones help i hope i can now end this thread(please God) and if anyone needs to substitute a coil or SNB 802 i have spares
Oh and i still may take you up on that cup of tea Graham! even if i have fabricate some other fault to get it
