Isle of Wight ferry access

Need to travel to the isle for the forseeable future and am worried about taking my tuscan on the Wight ferry due to clearance and angles on entry. Using alfa 147 currently and not a lot of clearance there let alone tusk

Has Clive or anyone any advice as really want to use tiv

Clive uses it regularly - Portsmouth to Fishbourne (I think) - in his Sag. I've used it in T350 and will be using it in Sag tomorrow... just make sure you go on the bottom level and drive slowly over the bumps/ramps.

In Southampton the really tight corner on the ramp up to the top deck is a bit dodgy and extremely low cars can have issues, in East Cowes the speed bumps on the ramp are similarly a bit big. I have never had an issue in my S but have scraped the ground on that corner in an RX7.

I don't often go via Portsmouth though I did come back that way when I bought the car and didn't have any problems. Thinking about it the ramp up to the top deck on a Wightlink boat probably isn't very nice either.

If you're worried then point out to the people loading the boat that your car is really low and they should make sure you're put somewhere sensible. A car stuck in their way is almost as annoying for them as it would be for you.

Done Wightlink in a Cerb with 3 people and a full boot and had no problems

I normally go from lymington to Yarmouth, does it make a difference what route you take, or all ferries the same( dumb question I know)

Just seems very low on entry

Lymington is the worst port for low cars IMO. If you're ok there you'll be fine anywhere else

I use Portsmouth as it is closer to me, but as I've had no problems I'll keep using it.

Used the ferry in Sag no problem today - they make sure you go on the bottom deck no probs there, but wait till you drive round the island - WORSE ROADS I HAVE EVER DRIVEN ON !!!!!! I have no fillings left now but at least it was a thorough test for the build quality of the Sag She's fine

should have given me a shout mike, you only over for the day or still here?

as for ferrys southampton and potsmouth routes are fine, but always ask to be on the lower deck, as for the lymington route I`ve heard its not good since they bought some new ferries on that route, but haven`t used it myself.

Fine going over in my chim on 17" rims recently.

I'd imagine things could change on a daily basis however when the ramp raises/lowers depending upon the tide.

I was also fortunate to be routed to the lower decks (non raising ramp). Might see about asking to do that each time i cross in future.

Oh, and hang around for everyone to leave their cars before you do yours once boarded - people have to walk betwen tightly parked cars so scratches / dings are a potential problem if careless people on board.

And make sure you start your engine first upon disembarkation just to give it some revs in the confined hulk of the ship! Lovely...
