4 post lift trouble

I bought a 4 poster off the Dutch company a few years ago but have a fault on it. If I try to lift with it the motor loads up and ends up blowing fuses; I don't understand how it operates so any ideas from you hydraulic guys appreciated, cheers, John.

had this problem with mine when i first got it motor was us from new thats cheepo chinese motors for you

Is it a single or 3 phase motor?

Its a single phase. The motor vibrates like hell but still pumps for a few seconds then blows a fuse; it has now started to work ok so it's an intermittent fault.

Did you have problems without the car on the ramp, or just when loaded?

I had this with my single phase lift motor. An electrician friend of mine sorted by changing fuse type. I am told that normal domestic fuses do not allow for the high current draw on start up. From memory ( I maybe wrong..) Fuse went from a 20 Amp B type to 20 Amp C type and this fixed it, there was also the option of going to a D if this did not work.

Thanks for the thoughts Matt. I may change the fusing anyway just in case.

I put mine on 16amp D type RCB and no problems

I have a dutch ramp, it runs on a 13amp plug. Fuse replaced once in two years.
