Guys apart from the bodywork are there any major differences between the two? I've tested a Sagaris and though it handled really well, it had a standard set up by the way. Does the tuscan 2 S on a standard set up handle as well. There's a really nice one at RG in black I'm tempted to look at as my search for the perfect sag is not going so well.

thanks

The primary technical difference is that the Sagaris has different suspension pick-up points on the chassis. This has the effect of lowering the c of g and also widening the track. This makes the handling (on the factory set up at least) better.

The Tuscan has a freer flowing exhaust system so they can be a little more powerful, and some Sags used a different final drive ratio which made them slower in a straight line than many Tuscan S's.

But apart from the obvious body and interior differences, the guts of the cars are basically the same.

Agree with what Dave has said - biggest difference I find though is the price

Out of the box the Sags have better handling but this can be corrected with the right set-up, dampers, springs etc. So it's a matter of what body style you like most and if you want the roof off. If you go for the 2S make sure it has the correct S spec being close ratio gear box and correct diff (3.73 or 3.91).

So do all MK2s come with a close ratio box as standard and either a 3.73 or 3.91?

On them long motorway drives down to the South of France taking the rear window out gives that open top feeling but with the roof still on so not getting burned to a crisp by the sun.
Its also good for listening to the NOISE biggrin

an S should have these as standard, but there are many S's out there without a CR box and/or the wrong diff (3.43) which make them sluggish. TVR used to have a "light"/cheaper S pack without the CR box. Of course you can always nogatiate to have these installed if not present but that should be reflected in the asking price.

BTW great looking car the one at RG

if it's a S engine you don't want a 3.9 diff,

my ideal set up would be CR box/3.4 Diff with a 4.5 supersport speed six engine smokin

don't agree: ideal is an S engine with CR box and 3.91 diff, it's ballistic and the gears follow each other almost seemlessly.

if you have a strong engine you don't need a 3.9 Diff to compensate for the lack of grunt.

3.4/3.7 is the way to go wink

With a 3.91 diff it accelerates quite a bit faster: 0-100 mph is about 1.5 s. quicker and the top speed is almost the same since it's overgeared anyway so there is no downside. The only thing is that it makes more revs on the motorway cruise but 100-110 mph is still quite relaxed.

3.43 is really "slow", 3.73 is quite good but 3.91 is fantastic.
Of course with a 4.5 there is so much grunt that the 3.91 is too short. I think Power says a 3.73 is best.

It also makes the car feel more like a proper convertible. I find there is less buffeting at over 90 mph, roof off, without the rear screen

stuff
though in the real world the 3.9 is slower unless you don't take it over 100mph and then it's more to do with traction/grip, my Sag with a 3.4 spins it's rear wheels in 1st, 2nd and 3rd gears so with a 3.9 diff in would just get silly with no traction, the only reason I could see S owners in having 3.9 diffs is because they have poor engines (power wise)

plus with the 3.9 they run out of puff at 130mph compared with a 3.4, (it's like they hit a barn door at 130mph) to quote an owner of a S engined car with 3.9 diff, where with the 3.4 it will pull like a bd to 160mph,

I know which diff I would rather have for going round Spa and it's not a 3.9, In fact I would never fit a 3.9 diff to my car, even for tight uk tracks I would rather have the 3.7diff.

The other day in "Germany" I haven't noticed any "barn doors" going over 120 mph; it reaches 150 mph very quickly and then it "slowly" reaches top speed at about 175 mph.

I've test driven Dom's demonstrator last friday (zolder, continental weekend) and wonder what diff is mounted. Maybe Dom can shed some light on this.

Very nicely balanced set up though, more torque then mine (sag 4.0, 3.41) yet very linear and smooth power delivery with nice sound track and very, very driveable.

Would like to drive it around track on full song sometime to fully appreciate the package.
