Ford Mondeo Self Levelling suspension
Discussion
Hello all,
I am new to this forum and have a question. I own a 2007 (mark III) Mondeo ST TDCi estate which apparently has self levelling suspension. This I was unaware of until I tried on Saturday to get a replacement shock for the offside rear. I need this as the one on there is leaking and the MOT is due in a month.
What I would like to know please is whether I can replace the self levelling suspension with standard shocks and whether anyone has done this themselves and what issues there may be?
You help will be appreciated.
Thanks.

I have just had the same problem as you, one of the self levellers was leaking and was an MOT fail.
I was not sure whether self levellers were fitted until I took them off.
I have fitted standard Monroe units to get through the MOT and now the car sits down at the back.
The cost of the Monroes was cheaper than the Ford part but I cant be sure since I cant source the ford bits anywhere.
When I took the levellers off the non leaking one had a date of 2009 on it and the car is 2005 so it looks as though the life is only 4 years.
There must be someone out there who can replace the seals and re-gas, anyone any ideas?

It is vital if changing self levelling suspension back to the conventional type that conventional springs are fitted as well as they are quite different by design to the self levelling type and this would explain why the rear of your car has now sunk.I was not sure whether self levellers were fitted until I took them off.
