Thinking about getting a CD player when I get my fiesta. Currently has the standard casette player. How much would a standard CD player cost plus fitting and are they less likely to be nicked than a different CD player? Can't find any info on them!

If it's the large style Ford ones, then you can buy them new from a dealer... but they are NOT cheap (the 6CD jobbie is about £400!).

Your best bet is to try eBay, or get a normal sized one with a facia adaptor...

Its a '99 model.

Don't need the 6CD jobby, not after anything fancy! Can get hold of a CD player for £50 or so plus £15 for plate but not sure about the fitting on this.

If you're not confident on fitting it, then most places will fit them for you (including Halfords) but check the costs up front. Sometimes you pay £75 + fitting... or £100 + free fitting.. so go for the latter, as you'll get a better unit.

The standard Ford single disc CD player with the double din bezel (large) is over 300 quid retail, on the exchange program it drops the price to about 90 which is still more than i'd pay to be honest.

6000 mp3 and 6006 (6disc) are more expensive again.

If it were me, i'd go for a standard size cd unit with MP3 playback.

Autoleads do all the adaptors you'll need to convert the ford plugs to what ever brand of audio unit you go for.

A trained monkey could do it.....do not pay someone!!!!

If you pick up a standard sized headunit (i.e. the MP3 all singing, all dancing one) it will fit in the hole.

However, you then need to get a fascia adapter to slot into where the old stereo was, so it doesn't look rubbish. You can get these reasonably cheap from Halfrauds.

This is not a problem

You just need to add a facia adaptor to drop from a double DIN aperture to a single din

www.autoleads.co.uk/facia.html

Autoleads do everything you'll need

Adaptor trim panel (facia)
Audio loom connector leads
speaker adaptors to allow bigger speakers (13cm)in place of the standard 10cm speakers

Halfords have it all and they only cost a few quid each.

Gimmie a yell if you are unsure

Does anyone know a cheap source of the 6000 units ?

I have a gap in my dash where the old one sat before the weekend. You'd think a 30 quid stereo wasnt worth pinching wouldnt you ?

Breakers yard? Ebay? There should be a bunch about from totalled cars, it's not like they have a wide range of uses! When I was at my local (big) breakers last month, they had a rack full of the things behind the counter.

Hopefully the feckers who made off with yours will not be able to crack the security code.

Hi m8, are you the same Broccers from the civic type-r forums?

6000 cd is well over priced!
you'll get far better value from halfords in all honesty. units from the breakers yard aren't always reliable as they don't handle shock loading very well!

a genuine exchange item is around 90 odd quid from ford dealers providing you have one to give back. otherwise they retail at over 300 notes.

Hi, yes t'is I.

I thought by getting a standard unit Id discourage the druggy/pikey types as it would narrow their potential sales market.

The salvage people want 160 odd for a standard unit ??? Barmy.

I'll have to phone a few more scrappies.

I have a 6-disc stacker and a l-o-n-g lead which will plug into any Ford 'CD-Compatible' unit. I got it for my Focus which had a 5000 but never got round to fitting it. WIll easily fit in glovebox or under passenger seat.

Podie - do you know anybody for this?

Pls e-mail if interested
