Looking into purchasing a car in the near future and been considering getting a Ka.

So far comments seem to be that it is a nippy yet reliable and economical car, what are your views on this?

Had one as a freebie hire car while on holiday last week.
Decent enough for what it is, thinking of buying one for my daughter when she turns 17 in a couple of months.

Not bad, but nothing special anymore. If buying new I'd spend the extra on the Fiesta, if secondhand, well, I'd still get a Festa! (1.25 Zetec if poss.) I've not driven the new SportKa, only the 1.3 - that was basic, economical, 'nippy'

For me Zetecs the way to go......broke the mould, a run of the mill Ford with a seriously good engine

Fixed an Uncle up with a '99 S 1.25LX 5dr 27k miles, mint condition, 1 owner etc for £3100 12mths ago, thinks its great

Been car shopping today, I saw a nice Ka2 and a few ok corsa's and polo's but dad's basically insisting on the 1.1fiesta. Not see it yet, sounds like it had a good history.

£1500

Seen it now, doccuments show its a 1.3 but the woman insists its a 1.1!
Its in good condition apart from a scratch on the bonet, looks like it's been filled (badly) so I reccon with some wet/dry sanding and colour stick it could improve, aslong as it doesn't go rusty shouldn't really affect it.
only 26k on the clock I think.
Basic finesse model - no central locking etc but it does have a sun roof! Power stearing works unlike my current one!

Basically just waiting for her to buy one of the new fiesta's and I can have hers!

Think I'm going to have to do pass plus as it seems to reduce insurance a lot!

How old is the car?

we havent had a 1100cc fiesta on sale for ages!!!

That was superceded by the 1250 cc 16v motor when the 96 fiesta was launched.

So, if it's after 96 and isn't a DOHC power unit, it IS 1300 cfi

Hope it helps

Its a T reg so about '99. The documents said 1299cc but she still insisted it was a 1.1!

it will be the 1300cc CFi engine as used in the Ka.

quite a reliable engine really, mind you it should be...........we've been using it since the dawn of time in one model or another

as i said in the other thread, mail me the cars details and i'll confirm the cars details.

I've been a Ka owner for over 4 years, i'm extremely happy with the Ka, and even in standard spec it was a great little car.

It does have it's failings though. It needs more power on the motorways. it's a perfectly acceptable car to drive on the motorway, but when you get near the top end, you lack acceleration. It's also starting to look dated on the inside compared to newer cars available now.

In the town/city, and on the twisties its great. In early 2003 Ford changed the engine from an 8v 1.3 Endura (60bhp standard) to an 8v 1.3 Duratec (70bhp standard). I've driven both, and tbth there is not really any great difference between the two. They are geared differently, so the Endura pulls better from start than the duratec, and the duratec is better in 5th than the Endura.

I get a steady 39mpg from my ka which is standard Endura with K&N panel filter, and exhaust and suspension modifications. I use my Ka every day for work (70 mile trip), and have covered 66000 miles in it.

I cant fault it personally, i love my little Ka. Theres things i'd change if I could, but i bet thats the same with all cars.

You can pick up a 'P' plater now for silly money, but there are things you need to look for. Have a look at www.kaklub.co.uk and there is a buyers guide on there detailing all the problems you may encounter as a Ka owner.

Hope this helps
