Hi, hope someone here can help me. The missus has a 53 plate Fiesta (Mk 6?) and the engine warning light is on. After having a look around some other forums I think that the Lambda sensor may need cleaning / replacing (she only does short stop / start journeys and has noticed that it is running a bit lumpy and that she seems to be using more fuel than normal.)
Great I thought, but then remembered that I have no idea what a Lambda sensor looks like or where such sensor would be located under the bonnet. If anyone here could give me any pointers in simple steps as to what & where I should be looking that would be great - pictures with big arrows would be even better !!

Cheers

Dan

At the back of the engine where the exhaust manifold is, there will be a wire going to a sensor screwed into the manfold itself, I believe you will need a 22mm spanner/lambda sensor socket to remove it.

if it is the lamada sensor you need dont buy it from ford they wanted £132 plus vat for a new one for my escort,
try quick fit or a car shop i ended up paying £30 for mine which including fitting however prolly be even cheaper if you fit it yourself because it is very easy to do

thats the downpipe off my escort and the lamada sensor goes into that hole so persume it in the same place, you will need to get the car up onto ramps or jack it up and have a good look around

If the engine warning light is on it would probably make sense to get it scanned (fault code read) it may not be the lambda sensor.
Also you can pick them up even cheaper on ebay. £10-£20.

I have 1.25 fiesta - bought trade - the engine management light came on - took it to Ford - needed a software update =£53 - MOT reading 1.98 just under the 2.0 permissible limit so pass --- light stayed out for a few weeks - came on again this time I used a cat cleaner - stayed out couple months - put another cat cleaner through system - this time only lasted couple of weeks. Bought tool to interrogate fault memory = looked at lambda at idle and under load so erratic impossible to read. Looked at lambda's on ebay. It looks like it may be the lambda itself - bought a "fooler" but if it is the lambda itself fitting the fooler with the same lambda may not sort it. Will give it a try first as the fooler was only 7 quid.
