We had a Ka (1998) in couple days back, the car kept stalling when depressing the clutch and also reving really high. So did bit of research and changed the idle valve. This stoppped the stalling but the car was still reving too high. Contacted the ford garage, who said it sounded like the throttle control censor, so changed that, now the flippin thing wont start, and when it does, as soon as you touch the accelerator the engine dies. Any ideas folks?

Idle air valve is very common on these for getting clogged up.

Remove, blast clean with carb cleaner.Refit and job done.

OP has changed it for a new one.

Maybe air is leaking in somewhere, possibly where you refitted the idle valve?

Was the small rubber gasket for the ISCV present / intact?

Sounds like an air leak or sticking throttle plate / cable.

Had this a couple of times on our KA. Check out Honest John here.

1998 Kas with ABS (Mar '98-Sep '98): Brake master cylinder may fail. 2000: TSB issued to replace throttle position sensor and connector if revs fail to decrease on lift off when upchanging. TSB issued advising dealers to use copper grease on spark plugs to aid removal. Technical Service Bulletin (TSB) 095/200 entitled 'Engine Idle Flare during Gear Changes' involves replacement of throttle position sensor (FPS) and wiring to it. Looks as though it is simply replaced and the wires splied to the existing loom. Time taken/charge should be 0.3 hours. Rumours of Summer 2001 TSB over problems with a/c pump. Stage 1 tighten auxilary belt. Stage 2 if that does not work replace pump. 22-7-2002: 31,000 UK market Kas built Jan-June 2002 recalled because front brake hose retaining clamp could become loose leading to pipe fouling on wheel and loss of brake fluid. 31,606 Kas affected.

A replacement FPS is c.£60 fitted at Rapid Fit.

Seconded, resolved the problem on my daughters KA.

What does FPS stand for?
My Ka has the same problem. The local garage I took it to said it was uneconomic to repair and would be in the region of £300+
I don't want to scrap the car if it's easily fixable.

It sounds like you introduced an air leak when you replaced the throttle position sensor. On my Mondeo, you have to remove the throttle body to do the job. If you did the same, it's likely that the gasket was damaged.
